Position Summary
The Gift Shop Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations, financial management, merchandising, and customer experience of the St. John’s Home Gift Shop. This role ensures a welcoming, consistent, and engaging retail environment for residents, families, staff, and visitors, while supporting revenue generation for the St. John’s Foundation.

The Supervisor will oversee all gift shop functions and will serve as the primary on-site presence, ensuring consistency, trust, and operational excellence.
Qualifications and Education Required
High school diploma or equivalent required
2+ years of retail experience required; supervisory or management experience preferred
Demonstrated experience handling cash, point-of-sale systems, and basic financial reporting
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to interact respectfully and compassionately with older adults
Basic computer proficiency, including spreadsheets and POS systems
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
Open and close the Gift Shop, including cash drawer verification and reconciliation
Provide excellent customer service by greeting and assisting all customers
Operate point-of-sale system, process transactions, and provide accurate change
Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting retail environment
Restock merchandise and monitor inventory levels
Prepare daily deposits and maintain accurate financial records
Financial and Reporting Responsibilities
Complete daily sales tracking and reconciliation
Prepare and submit monthly sales reports to the Business Office
Maintain accountability for cash handling and deposit processes
Support revenue growth through effective merchandising and product selection
Inventory and Merchandising
Research, select, and purchase inventory aligned with customer preferences and budget
Price, label, and manage inventory within POS system
Monitor product performance and adjust pricing or promotions as needed
Maintain inventory tracking systems, including expiration date monitoring
Refresh displays regularly to enhance customer experience and sales
Store Experience and Engagement
Build relationships with residents, staff, and frequent customers to foster trust and repeat visits
Create a welcoming and consistent presence in the Gift Shop
Coordinate seasonal and holiday displays and décor
Promote special items or sales to increase engagement and revenue
Operations and Continuous Improvement
Maintain and update Gift Shop procedures and training documentation
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, sales, and customer experience
Collaborate with Foundation leadership on strategies to enhance Gift Shop performance
Support occasional volunteer engagement as appropriate within the new structure
Schedule Expectations
Approximately 24 hours per week, with consistent weekday coverage
Schedule designed to expand Gift Shop accessibility and consistency of service
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching
Manual dexterity for operating cash register, computer, and handling merchandise
Ability to lift light to moderate items
Exposure to Conditions
May be exposed to infectious diseases in a healthcare environment
Occasional exposure to challenging behaviors typical in elder care settings
