Description
The primary responsibilities of theConstruction & Maintenance Tech Assistantis to assist the other Maintenance Techs in installing and splicing fiber optic cable, strand and associated hardware. Help maintain equipment and tools and acquire all necessary material and equipment to complete the assigned work orders. Other responsibilities and qualifications may be required. This position requires field work which may include overtime, weekends, holidays, and off hours.
Essential Functions:
Flags traffic to protect employees and the public
Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed
Work aloft up to 50ft on/in ladder, bucket, utility pole, and aerial lift
Work in small and confined space like in manholes and crawl spaces
Assist from the ground to lineperson and splicers aloft
Clean up job site
Driving Company Vehicles
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Excellent teamwork ability
Perform work in accordance with industry standards
Ability to properly use all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks-including Drills, Cable Cutters, Hammer Drill, Splicer, Cleaver, Lasher
A high standard of work ethics with an ability to perform all work in a neat and quality manner
Ability to adhere to safety guidelines and requirements including wearing all forms of PPE
Ability to work in adverse conditions including all weather conditions
Must have great work ethic and be trainable
Must be able to stoop, kneel, stand, crouch for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Must be willing to travel away from home overnight
Ability to read, write and communicate with others effectively and promptly
Ability to make sound decisions consistent with job duties
Ability to be on call for outages/emergencies in all regions.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
OSHA 10-hour1 preferred
Flagger Training1 preferred
Possess a valid driver's license with clean driving record
