Olmsted Medical Center Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) - Orthopedic Sports in Rochester, Minnesota

Description 1.0 FTE - Orthopedic Sports An Orthopedic Sports Surgery Advanced Practice Clinician works with physicians to diagnose, treat, and manage musculoskeletal injuries, performing exams, ordering tests (X-rays, MRI), diagnosing conditions, prescribing medication, assisting in surgery, and educating patients on prevention and recovery, functioning as a key part of the physician-led team in the clinic and operating rooms. Salary range: $61.78-$84.25 per hour. Offers for external candidates are generally made between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on experience. Incentive Plan: Eligible for a variable, or non-guaranteed, portion of compensation based on achievement of specific citizenship, quality, or other goals. This is currently 7.5% of base income. Provides diagnosis and treatment of common orthopedic problems. Elicits appropriate present and past medical history and review of systems. Performs appropriate physical examination and orders appropriate diagnostic studies. Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings in history and physical. Establishes appropriate differential diagnosis. Assesses stability of chronic illness and compliance with present therapy; monitors for complications of disease or therapy. Establishes appropriate treatment plan. Assesses need for physician intervention. Determines timing for follow-up and orders appropriate referrals. Performs technical procedures and utilizes basic diagnostic instruments with skill. Counsels regarding health maintenance and injury prevention and provides anticipatory guidance as appropriate. Initiates the order of laboratory tests, radiological examinations, and other routine diagnostic procedures. Orders or performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, venous and arterial blood draws, and managing conditions produced by infection, trauma, or other disease process. 2. Provides health education to patients about ways to improve, promote, and maintain their health status, including, but not limited to providing educational information on disease/injuries, prevention of injuries, and self-care practice. Assesses and tailors education to learning capabilities and readiness of individual. Prioritizes learning needs and documents them. Ensures that time frame and subject matter is appropriate for individuals. Utilizes appropriate teaching materials (handouts, demonstration, etc.) and documents use for patient outcomes. 3. Maintains accurate records, medication lists, documentation of care, nd follow-up for administrative purposes and reimbursement of services. Adheres to agreed-upon format/protocol for documentation of records. Maintains appropriate level of documentation to support level of complexity when compared with service fee charges. Reviews and updates problem and initiates problem and medication list on new patients. Documents telephone calls with patients and other healthcare providers. Documents visit in concise, clear, logical, legible, and timely manner. 3. Maintains competence in clinical practice. Identifies the knowledge and skills needed through self-assessment, peer review, and supervisory review. Participates in a variety of educational activities to maintain and increase competency. Maintains state license and national certification. Uses continuing education opportunities as a basis for expanding medical knowledge and improving clinical skills and incorporates these into the daily practice of medicine. 4. Supervises and intervenes with clinical issues and supports/directs triage by clinical staff when necessary. Implements clinical education and training of clinical staff when necessary. Provides constructive feedback as it relates to performance, patient flow, and patient care issues. Provides in-service and clinical education for staff members on an "as-needed" basis. Is available for feedback on call-back and triage issues as needed. Identifies barriers to patient care flow or delivery and assists at formulating corrective action. Serves as a role model for patient interaction and conflict resolution for clinical staff. Works collaboratively with healthcare team members, both in and out of office setting, to ensure complete delivery of prescribed care. Makes hospital rounds as directed by the supervising physician. 6. Adheres to the drug formulary used by Olmsted Medical Center. Prescribes within the practice agreement set forth by supervising physician. 7. Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect for all patients, families, guests, and representatives of other organizations as well as fellow employees, volunteers, and medical staff. Maintains confidentiality of patient and practice information. Consistently displays a caring and responsive attitude, represents the practice in a positive manner, and conducts all activities respecting patient/customer rights and expectations. Interpersonal relations with other healthcare workers are regularly fostered in a courteous and friendly manner. Facilitates resolution of conflicts with staff members. Consistently receives and gives suggestions and constructive criticism in a professional manner. 8. Demonstrates responsibility for individual performance and efficient utilization of products, supplies, equipment, and time to ensure the timely completion of duties and to promote financial viability through provision of services at a reasonable cost. Maintains consistent level of productivity. Provides proper notification for all absences, tardiness, and scheduled time off. Consistently uses products, supplies, and equipment in an efficient manner. 9. Follows established safety precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties to ensure a safe environment. Regularly performs job tasks in accordance with policy and procedures, including appropriate use of equipment, machines, and appropriate use in wearing of physical barriers and safety equipment.
