Air Force Materiel Command Recreation Specialist (Programmer) in Robins AFB, Georgia

Summary About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation on Robins AFB. Regular Part Time Employees are guaranteed 20 hours per week but may work up to 40 hours per week. This position does offer benefits. Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to serve as an Outdoor Recreation Specialist for overall management, planning, maintenance and control of all outdoor facilities and equipment. Develops, organizes, and implements seasonal outdoor programs to include, but not limited to, a variety of land and water-related activities and services (e.g., aquatics, camping, backpacking, nature hikes, canoeing, rafting, rock climbing, bicycling, skiing, etc.). Plans and coordinates activities within the limitations of available facilities, equipment, staff, and financial resources. Schedules and publicizes outdoor recreation activities. Arranges for off-base equipment, transportation, supplies, and services needed to accomplish scheduled activities. Establishes contact with various off-base agencies. Solicits volunteers and individual activity orientation and training. Instructs participants in the activity for which the employee has technical expertise. Gathers, monitors, and maintains data to complete reports, respond to inquiries and assists others. Assists with periodic program plans and quarterly and annual budget requirements. Ensures safety orientation is provided to paid and volunteer staff and participants regarding specific activities. Assists with market studies to determine the types of outdoor recreation events and activities desired by the customer. Briefs the base populace on Outdoor Recreation offerings. Assists in the development of the Outdoor Recreation annual marketing plan and creation of the annual budget. Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing activities and adapts various programs in accordance with findings. Plans and organizes special events as assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Director. Provides information and advises patrons of available recreation resources and opportunities in the area. May be required to act as trip/tour guide, supervise volunteers and perform personally, a broad variety of general clerical and administrative functions. May become involved in supply functions such as receipt, storage, issue, and maintenance. Assists in the upkeep and preparation of Outdoor Recreation assigned facilities. Assists with outdoor pool opening and closing preparation and with oversight of pool operations during the summer season. Serves as a backup for counter personnel. Position is a Position of Trust. Qualifying Experience: Must have knowledge gained through experience to independently program and carry out continuing outdoor recreation projects or programs through proper application of the principles, concepts, and techniques of recreation to the specific needs of the community served. Knowledge of camping, fishing, hiking, boating, and other outdoor recreational activities. Ability to communicate effectively. Must have knowledge of basic inventory and stock record procedures, management procedures, and general business principles. Ability to communicate effectively. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, and stretching. Frequently lifts or carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
