TEKsystems Geologist in Roanoke, Virginia
Description
A multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm is seeking a full‑time, entry‑level Geologist to support projects across West Virginia and nearby states. This position will be based out of the company’s main office. As part of the Geotechnical Department, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your career alongside a team of technical specialists working on transportation, environmental, and infrastructure projects for both public and private clients.
The role involves 75%–100% field work, with occasional in‑office tasks between field assignments. Some travel to project sites in surrounding states should be expected.
Typical Responsibilities
Overseeing subsurface investigations, including soil and rock sampling, monitoring well installation, and placement of geotechnical instrumentation
Assisting with planning and execution of field exploration programs
Preparing boring logs and developing geologic cross sections
Performing and assigning geotechnical laboratory testing on soil and rock samples
Supporting the preparation of work plans, technical reports, and contract documents
Providing construction oversight on projects involving earthwork, foundations, excavation support, instrumentation, ground improvement, and pipeline installation
Assisting with developing scopes of work, schedules, and budgets for proposals
Coordinating and supervising subcontractors during field activities
Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary project team
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related field
Understanding of fundamental geologic principles and regional stratigraphy
0–5 years of relevant experience
Willingness to travel based on project needs and workload
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Basic understanding of scientific methods and field investigation processes

This is a Contract position based out of Roanoke, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
