RISK MANAGER

SALARY: GRADE 15 $80,619.66 - $126,095.85 annually ($38.76 - $60.62 hourly; salary will be dependent upon education and experience)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the City Attorney, the Risk Manager is responsible for loss control and workplace safety programs; compiling and interpreting risk management data and insurance plans; and prepares training with an emphasis on prevention of injuries, occupational diseases, vehicle accidents, equipment and material damage, and City liabilities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

- Plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements risk management, loss prevention, inspections, safety, and other programs.
- Coordinates the identification of exposures and works with departments to appraise, analyze, and evaluate exposures to accidental, legal, and regulatory losses through surveys, inspections, records, and contract reviews.
- Oversees the third-party liability claim process.
- Conducts training seminars to promote City-wide awareness and program compliance (OSHA and other requirements such as best practices dictated by the City's insurance carrier) and tracking for OSHA, workers' compensation, driver safety, personal protection, accident prevention, etc., assists in on-site safety and loss control inspections by departments, insurance programs, UOSH, etc.
- Chairs and oversees all aspects of the Incident Review Board / Safety Committee, including regular meetings, hear cases involving workplace accidents, and recommend possible disciplinary action to department heads and human resources.
- Serves as an administrator for employee Workers' Compensation and Occupational Disease claims.
- Maintains OSHA regulations.
- Plans and organizes safety and risk trainings.
- Prepares and maintains safety training files.
- Assists with City Recorder duties when needed, such as cemetery planning and attending City Council meetings.
- Serves as an administrator for employee Workers' Compensation and Occupational Disease claims.
Any other responsibilities that would be required to maintain effective operations of the department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree with major course work in risk management, industrial safety and health, public administration, human resources, business, legal, or related field. Equivalent experience is acceptable in lieu of a formal degree.
- 2+ years of risk management-related experience is required.
- Experience in general clerical functions is required.
Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License with a good driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of federal compliance requirements for regulatory programs such as OSHA, ADA, etc.
- Knowledge of risk management and safety practices.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in difficult situations
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Ability to prioritize work based on department and production objectives
- Ability to manage projects simultaneously
- Must be highly self-motivated and customer-centric
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and some holidays when needed; schedule may vary on a weekly basis
- Positive attitude and ability to work with a variety of different people at various levels
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must have excellent decision-making ability and analytical skills
- Must be excellent with multi-tasking and problem solving
- Required to have strong influence/interpersonal skills and be effective with team interactions
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required
Must be proficient with a PC or laptop, email, and internet
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen, a background and driving record screen, and provide employment verification with Form I-9. This position has a six-month probation period.
