Job Title: Senior Staff Accountant
Job Description
The Senior Staff Accountant leads the preparation and review of financial statements, ensures adherence to GAAP and internal policies, and drives continuous improvement in accounting processes. This role serves as a key liaison between property-level accounting teams and finance leadership, providing technical expertise, guidance, and mentorship to staff. The Senior Staff Accountant also supports budgeting, forecasting, and audits while helping to standardize and enhance accounting practices across a multi-location hospitality and gaming environment.
Responsibilities
Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure all financial reporting complies with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
Perform and review complex account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end closing activities.
Oversee and support month-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Collaborate with property-level teams to standardize accounting practices and strengthen internal controls.
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
Act as a team lead by providing day-to-day guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to staff accountants.
Conduct training for new team members and contribute to the ongoing professional development of the accounting team.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve accounting systems, workflows, and reporting accuracy.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for operational and financial improvement.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support financial planning and decision-making.
Serve as a liaison between property-level accounting teams and finance leadership to ensure alignment and clear communication.
Assist finance teams with internal and external financial-related audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses.
Manage and maintain the company’s master vendor list, ensuring accuracy and compliance with procurement policies.
Manage cash recycler user access and configurations to support secure and efficient cash operations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry-specific financial requirements, particularly in gaming and hospitality.
Travel occasionally to other locations to assist teams or provide on-site training and support.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
At least 4 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality, gaming, or resort industry.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal accounting controls.
Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
Proficiency in preparing and reviewing financial statements.
Demonstrated experience with account reconciliations and journal entries.
Experience supporting and executing month-end close processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to analyze financial data, identify variances, and provide meaningful insights.
Ability to lead, mentor, and provide guidance to other accounting team members.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
Effective communication skills for collaborating with property-level teams and finance leadership.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in the hospitality, gaming, or resort industry is strongly preferred.
Experience working within a corporate accounting environment supporting multiple locations.
Comfort working with various accounting software platforms, with openness to learning and adapting to new systems.
Experience contributing to process improvement initiatives in accounting operations.
Experience supporting internal and external audits, including preparing schedules and documentation.
Ability to conduct training and support the professional development of accounting staff.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Work Environment
This position is based 100% in the office, providing close collaboration with a corporate accounting team that supports multiple properties in a hospitality and gaming setting. Once fully trained, there is potential for schedule flexibility, including the option to work four 10-hour days per week. The team environment includes experienced and long-tenured accounting professionals, offering opportunities for mentorship, growth, and cross-training. The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
