Actalent Controls Engineer in Risingsun, Ohio

Job Title: Controls EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer to tackle complex control engineering challenges. This role involves programming within Rockwell Automation and Siemens toolsets, providing 24/7 support for businesses, and managing multiple projects simultaneously. You will collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to address root-cause issues, reduce downtime, and enhance safety. You will design, select, manage, program, and commission automation equipment to improve existing systems, including PLC programming and interfacing with HMI, MES, and SQL database systems. Additionally, you will enable internal and external partners to understand design standards, implementation strategies, and best practices while maintaining proper documentation. Your role will also involve identifying opportunities to increase safety, reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance quality, as well as mentoring and training others to improve safety and expand off-hour support resources.

Responsibilities

  • Solve complex control engineering challenges using Rockwell Automation and Siemens toolsets.

  • Provide 24/7 support and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to fix root-cause issues, reduce downtime, and improve safety.

  • Design, select, manage, program, and commission automation equipment for system enhancements.

  • Program and interface with PLC, HMI, MES, and SQL database systems.

  • Enable partners to understand design standards and implementation strategies.

  • Maintain proper documentation.

  • Identify opportunities to enhance safety, reduce costs, and improve efficiency and quality.

  • Mentor and train team members to improve safety and expand off-hour support.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math).

  • Five plus years of experience in automation and control systems design.

  • Proficiency in PLC Hardware, PLC programming, automation controls, and Control Systems.

  • Ability to contribute to large-scale projects.

  • Knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric code, UL508A).

  • Understanding of Safety standards (ANSI B11/RIA 15, OSHA).

  • Competence in CAD for updating and creating electrical drawings.

  • Familiarity with HMI and programming languages.

  • Availability for on-call rotation 3-4 times per quarter.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Siemens.

  • Background in Power Systems and Power Electronics.

  • Proficiency in programming and tuning variable frequency drives (VFDs).

  • Experience in heavy industrial or similar environments.

  • Familiarity with fast-paced iterative design and manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of Industrial Ethernet networks, Wireless Networks, and field bus networking.

  • Experience with motion control systems including motors, drives, and encoders.

  • Understanding of cyber-security protocols for system protection.

Work Environment

This role is primarily onsite with some remote flexibility. You will be part of a team of approximately 140 members.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Risingsun, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
