About the role
As a Consulting Manager – Life, Disability & Voluntary Benefits (SME) , you will make an impact by serving as a trusted advisor to insurance clients, bridging business strategy and operational execution, and ensuring product innovations across Life, Disability, Dental, Vision, and ancillary benefits are supported by strong business architecture and modern technology ecosystems.
You will be a valued member of the consulting team and work collaboratively with client business and technology stakeholders across insurance organizations
In this role, you will:
Business Architecture & Strategy: Lead client engagements to design and document operating models for Life, Disability, Supplemental Health, and other insurance lines. Map the end-to-end business journey, identifying opportunities for automation and process optimization.
Product & Domain Advisory: Serve as lead SME for Individual and Group products (Life, STD / LTD, Dental, Vision, Long Term Care, etc.) Provide deep insights into product configuration, regulatory compliance, market-standard, and market-leading features to ensure solutions meet client needs.
Consultative Transformation: Guide clients through complex transformations, such as policy administration system modernizations or the reimagination of parts of the value chain. Ensure that the business logic of complex products such as disability and dental is preserved in new technical architectures.
Executive Relationship Management: Cultivate Trusted Advisor status with business leads, operations leads, product leads, and technology leads. Translate industry trends into actionable business cases, articulating the ROI of operational efficiency and customer experience.
Solution Validation: Review and validate proposed business and technology solutions to ensure they support the unique requirements of group benefits (eg. list billing, census management, broker commissions) and individual products (eg. medical underwriting, policy loans, claims).
Industry Thought Leadership: Lead practice associates to create point of views and thought leadership associated with various aspects of the Life and Health insurance landscape.

What you must have to be considered
8+ years of experience in the Life & Health Insurance industry with exposure to business architecture, product management, policy administration systems, or insurance operations.
Professional Certification: ALMI or FLMI (or equivalent) required.
Strong consulting experience with demonstrated ability to lead client engagements and manage senior stakeholders.
Deep understanding of the insurance value chain, including:
New business & underwriting
Individual vs. Group billing
Claims adjudication
Reinsurance fundamentals
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and present to executive audiences.
These will help you succeed
Additional certifications such as CEBS or disability/group benefits credentials.
Advanced degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
Familiarity with leading Policy Administration Systems from a business functionality perspective (e.g., Fineos, Vitech, EIS, FAST ).
Working knowledge of U.S. insurance regulatory frameworks, including state filings, HIPAA, and ERISA .
Compensation
$86,500 – $129,500
This position is eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
