Position: Staff Accountant – Finance Department – Richmond Hill Corporate Office
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy of financial records, and assisting with financial reporting and compliance requirements. This role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, supporting month-end close, and assisting with audit and regulatory reporting.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager / Controller
Job Scope – Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger
Maintain accurate and complete financial records in accordance with GAAP
Assist with account reconciliations, including bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts
Monitor transactions for accuracy and proper coding
Month-End Close
Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting
Assist in variance analysis and explanation of financial results
Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
Review invoices and expense reports for proper coding and approvals
Assist with processing vendor payments and recording transactions
Support accounts receivable functions, including invoicing and cash application
Audit & Compliance
Assist in preparing documentation and schedules for external audits
Respond to audit requests and maintain organized supporting files
Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements
Financial Reporting
Assist in preparation of internal financial reports and statements
Support budget tracking and reporting activities
Maintain supporting documentation for grants and funding sources (if applicable)
Systems & Process Support
Enter and maintain financial data within accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, QuickBooks)
Assist in improving accounting workflows and internal processes
Support implementation of system upgrades or integrations
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required or 5 plus years’ experience in accounting
1–3 years of accounting experience (internship experience may be considered)
Experience in nonprofit or healthcare environment preferred
Preferred Qualifications (If Applicable)
Experience with nonprofit fund accounting
Familiarity with:
Grant reporting and compliance
CFR or other regulatory reporting
Experience with ERP systems such as Sage Intacct
Skills & Competencies
Working knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication and teamwork abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information

Position Status
This is a full-time non-Exempt position, typically requiring [35 hours per week], with possibility of additional hours during payroll processing cycles or year-end payroll activities.
A non-exempt employee is an employee that is covered by the FLSA regulations, and are entitled to overtime pay at 1.5 times their regular rate for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek (or as specified by state law).

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Must have the ability to travel among assigned sites as needed. There may be long periods of standing, sitting, and computer usage.
