Job Title: Senior Commercial HVAC/R Technician

Job Description

Join a stable, growing commercial HVAC/R team that services a large portfolio of buildings across Metro Vancouver. In this Senior technician role, you provide expert service, maintenance, replacement, and installation support for commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. You work independently and as part of a collaborative team, mentor apprentices, and contribute to a well-organized, safety-focused operation with strong long-term career potential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform service, maintenance, replacement, and installation on commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems across multiple sites.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, refrigeration, and heating issues to diagnose problems accurately and implement effective solutions.

  • Properly stage jobs, prepare materials, and follow established quality and safety checklists on every assignment.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-inventoried company vehicle to ensure efficiency and professionalism on the job.

  • Work independently or collaboratively with other journeypersons and apprentices to complete projects on time and to a high standard.

  • Mentor and train HVAC and refrigeration apprentices, providing guidance, coaching, and on-the-job skills development.

  • Participate actively in formal training, exercises, and professional development activities to stay current in the trade.

  • Apply full knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and relevant codes when performing service on commercial refrigeration systems.

  • Communicate clearly with team members, office staff, and customers to provide updates, explain findings, and document work performed.

  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while working on active construction and occupied sites.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC service, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems, including refrigeration and heating equipment.

  • Strong service troubleshooting experience in commercial environments.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used for commercial refrigeration service.

  • Thorough understanding of applicable codes and regulations governing commercial refrigeration and HVAC services.

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Strong English oral and written communication skills.

  • Willingness and ability to pass a police back check.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team on commercial projects.

  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and organized work practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Red Seal Refrigeration certification and B-Gas ticket (or equivalent) preferred.

  • Experience in both refrigeration and heating maintenance in commercial settings.

  • Experience working on institutional or commercial construction projects is an asset.

  • Foreman or lead hand experience in plumbing or mechanical trades is an advantage.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train apprentices effectively.

  • Comfort using checklists, documentation, and structured processes to manage work.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage tools, inventory, and job staging efficiently.

Work Environment

You work primarily on commercial sites throughout Metro Vancouver, with current projects in areas such as North Vancouver and White Rock. Commutes over 30 minutes qualify for a travel allowance, supporting fair compensation for longer travel. Typical start times are 7:00 or 7:30 a.m. for an 8-hour day, with overtime available when needed to stay on schedule; however, overtime and weekend work are not expected to be frequent. The general contractor on current projects is experienced, organized, and known for maintaining a realistic, comfortable build schedule. You operate from a well-maintained company vehicle and use standard commercial HVAC/R tools and equipment in a structured, safety-conscious environment. You collaborate with a positive team of professionals who value clear communication, organization, and mutual support on site.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $112000.00 - $135000.00/yr.
