Job Title: Food Production Worker

Job Description

The Food Production Worker supports daily manufacturing operations by safely and efficiently producing high-quality food products in accordance with company standards, food safety regulations, and WorkSafeBC requirements. This role involves operating production equipment, handling food products, maintaining strict sanitation standards, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform production tasks such as mixing, assembling, cooking, forming, packaging, labeling, and palletizing food products in accordance with established procedures.

  • Work primarily in forming or boxing areas, while remaining flexible to support prep and cooking areas as needed.

  • Operate and monitor production machinery and equipment safely and efficiently, promptly reporting any issues or malfunctions.

  • Follow production schedules, recipes, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain consistent product quality.

  • Meet established productivity, quality, and yield targets while minimizing waste.

  • Comply with all food safety programs, including HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and sanitation procedures.

  • Perform regular quality checks on products and packaging, and immediately report any deviations, defects, or concerns.

  • Maintain accurate production and quality records to support traceability and regulatory compliance.

  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and traceability of ingredients, work-in-progress, and finished products.

  • Follow all WorkSafeBC requirements and company health and safety policies at all times.

  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the shift and follow safe work practices.

  • Report safety hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately to support a safe workplace.

  • Participate actively in safety training sessions and toolbox meetings.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, equipment, and tools throughout the shift.

  • Perform cleaning and sanitation tasks as assigned, including supporting allergen control and cross-contamination prevention.

  • Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to achieve production goals and resolve issues.

  • Support continuous improvement, waste reduction, and efficiency initiatives within the production environment.

  • Assist with training and supporting new employees as required, sharing knowledge of processes and standards.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.

  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to product quality and food safety.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, repetitive production environment.

  • Basic math and record-keeping skills for tracking production and quality data.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.

  • Ability to lift approximately 25–50 pounds, including up to 30 pounds repeatedly during the shift (with or without accommodation).

  • Ability to work in a cooled environment of approximately 4 degrees Celsius as required.

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks safely and accurately over the course of the shift.

  • Ability to wear required PPE, including steel-toe footwear, for the entire shift.

  • Comfort working with chicken, beef, and pork products.

  • Flexibility with working times, including potential day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous experience in food manufacturing, food production, food prep, kitchen prep, or a GMP-regulated environment is an asset.

  • Experience in production, packaging, and warehouse environments is considered an advantage.

  • Familiarity with HACCP principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is beneficial.

  • Comfort working with food manufacturing equipment and tools in a temperature-controlled setting.

  • Willingness to support continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives within the production team.

Work Environment

This role is based in a food manufacturing facility that operates multiple production areas, including prep, cooking, forming, and packaging/boxing. You will work in temperature-controlled areas, including cooled environments around 4 degrees Celsius, and will be regularly exposed to food ingredients such as chicken, beef, and pork, as well as production machinery and equipment. The schedule follows shift work that may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, with overtime required at times based on operational needs. Typical start times range between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. for an 8-hour shift, with the expectation of flexibility to move to afternoon or weekend shifts as needed. The facility requires the use of personal protective equipment at all times; you must provide steel-toe footwear, while other PPE is supplied on-site. The workplace emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to strict sanitation and GMP standards. Lockers are available for personal belongings, and employees are expected to bring a lock suitable for day use.

The pay range for this position is $21.21 - $21.21/hr.
