Job Title: Carpenter Helper / Skilled Labourer

Job Description

This role supports carpenters on a long-term commercial construction project in Richmond. You will perform a variety of hands-on tasks including rough and general carpentry assistance, site cleanup, material handling, and operation of basic tools and equipment to help keep the project running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Assist carpenters and rough carpenters with day-to-day tasks on a commercial construction site.

  • Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively for rough and general carpentry work.

  • Strip forms and support concrete and formwork-related activities as directed.

  • Perform general labour duties such as shoveling, de-watering, and compacting materials.

  • Move and organize furniture, lumber, and other construction materials around the site.

  • Set up, adjust, and remove hoarding and temporary barriers as required.

  • Operate basic machinery and equipment when needed and when authorized.

  • Carry out regular site cleanup to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work area.

  • Follow all site safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.

  • Travel between sites if required, and adapt to changing tasks based on project needs.

  • Work evening shifts when scheduled and maintain reliability and punctuality.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience as a formwork labourer or carpenter helper on construction projects.

  • Demonstrated experience on commercial construction sites.

  • Ability and willingness to perform physical labour, including site cleanup and general labour tasks.

  • Proficiency using hand tools and basic carpentry tools, along with a personal tool belt.

  • Ability to use power tools safely in a construction environment.

  • Ability to pass a C6 Clearance.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car for travel to and from the site.

  • Willingness to work evening shifts when required.

  • Reliability, strong work ethic, and ability to follow directions from supervisors and carpenters.

  • Basic understanding of site safety practices and safe equipment operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • First Aid certification is an asset.

  • TCP (Traffic Control Person) certification is an asset.

  • Experience with formwork and concrete work is an advantage.

  • Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.

  • Ability to work effectively within a small team structure.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with supervisors and crew members.

Work Environment

You will work on a commercial construction site located at YVR, primarily at a single site unless project delays require relocation. The environment includes both indoor and outdoor work, with tasks performed in varying weather conditions. You will be part of a small team of approximately four people, working closely with site supervision and a foreman. The role may involve evening shifts, and hours can vary depending on project demands, including potential night shifts. Work involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, compactors, and other basic construction equipment, as well as physical tasks such as shoveling, moving materials, and stripping forms. Travel between sites may occasionally be required, depending on project needs. Standard construction-site attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are expected at all times.

This is a Contract position based out of Richmond, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
