Job Duties/Scope Of Work HMIS is seeking an intern to support the HMIS Cultural and Historic Resources Program (CHRP), Tribal Nations (TN) program, and Curation Services (CS) program at the Hanford Site. The primary focus of the internship is to assist with activities related to Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act, assist in facilitating engagement with Native American Tribes at the Hanford Site, and assist with the management and maintenance of collections in accordance with 36 CFR 79. The intern will work under immediate supervision of program mentors and receive general instructions on sequencing and planning of work for routine, sometimes repetitive tasks controlled by procedures. Instructions for unusual assignments are given on a task basis. Routine work is spot-checked and other work is inspected by a supervisor. Any specialized training tasks are performed under close supervision and guidance. Scope of Work: The interns may perform the following tasks under the supervision of HMIS staff: Fieldwork Assistance: • Interns will work under the immediate supervision of program mentors. Support CHRP fieldwork activities, including surveys, site testing, site evaluation, data recovery, and cultural resource monitoring as required. • Tribal Engagement: • Assist in preparing for meetings or site visits with Native American Tribes. • Research past issues and support information requests to facilitate visits or meetings. • Files Management: • Digitize project and site archives. • Organize, create, and maintain digital files. Collections Management: • Assist with acquisitions, accessions, inventories, assessments, organization, tagging, tracking, and safeguarding collections from deterioration. • Geographic Information Systems (GIS): • Assist in the development and maintenance of GIS databases related to cultural resources. • Use GIS technology to map and analyze cultural resource sites and data. • Support spatial data collection and integration into existing GIS systems. • Environmental Program Support: • Assist with other tasks within the HMIS Environmental Program as needed. Basic Qualifications • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in history, anthropology, archaeology, geology, museum studies, library sciences, or other related field. • Must have one college term completed at an accredited college or university, must be enrolled as a full-time student, and live within a commutable distance from the Richland work location. • Must have and maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or above. • Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks. • Ability to obtain and maintain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential badge. • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint Desired Qualifications • Previous field survey experience. This role entails occasional walking/hiking across sites over uneven terrain several miles a day in potentially adverse weather conditions. • Demonstrated experience performing repetitive and administrative tasks with close attention to detail. • Requires ability to collect data, communicate trends and observations to support established procedures. • Excellent written, oral, listening, and presentation skills. • Previous site condition monitoring. • Previous cultural resources monitoring. • Experience recordin
