Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) delivers exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste. H2C leads the nation's largest and most complex radioactive waste cleanup, including closure of the legacy waste tanks at Hanford containing 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste.

This Mechanical Engineering role supports the Effluent Treatment Facility (ETF), which is a less than Hazard Category 3 facility that treats and disposes liquid effluents from Hanford programs and projects. The ETF removes chemical and low levels of radioactive contaminants from various waste feed streams. ETF is currently installing new unit operations.

The selected candidate will develop and assume technical responsibility for multiple systems within ETF. This position will ensure that the facility is maintained/upgraded in accordance with applicable codes, standards, requirements, criteria, and specifications and that engineering products are developed in accordance with good engineering practices and that requirements are adequately flowed down to specific work scope.

  • Develop and/or review Engineering Change Notices, specifications, calculations, drawings, and material requests.

  • Provide facility specific input to projects and assist projects in setting up operating procedures, maintenance procedures, and identifying equipment that requires preventative maintenance.

  • Assist Operations in trouble shooting activities.

  • Support work package development, routine maintenance activities, field walkdowns, and field work execution.

  • Participate in procedure development and revisions.

  • Prepare technical manuals, written reports, documents, and presentations.

  • Deliver technical presentations to engineering, operations, projects, and customer organizations.

  • Daily contact, both verbal and written, with peers and related functional groups.

  • Shall obtain and maintain at a minimum an Engineering Technical Staff qualification card and work toward a system Design Authority qualification.

Required Qualifications

Grade 19:

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and

Nine (9) years of related experience

Grade 20:

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and

Ten (10) years of related experience

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Grade 21:

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and

Twelve (12) years of related experience

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with ASME 31.1 and B31.3 piping system designs.

Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and environmental regulations

Excellent verbal communication skills

Compensation & Benefits

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.

Hiring Range Minimum: $119,813

Hiring Range Maximum: $183,050
