Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) delivers exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste. H2C leads the nation's largest and most complex radioactive waste cleanup, including closure of the legacy waste tanks at Hanford containing 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste.

Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) is seeking Instrument Specialists. This position will install and maintain highly complex instruments, control systems, and related equipment used in the Laboratory to generate, accumulate, and record scientific date from experimental operations and processes. Assemble instrument components into complex workable systems as designed to accomplish stated results. Work form sketches, prints, or oral instructions. May direct others.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Also needs to meet one of the following requirements:
Completion of a technical school and a minimum of three years of industry experience or
Completion of an apprenticeship with 8,100 documented hours in a recognized apprentice program and a minimum of three years of industry experience or
Five years industry experience in related responsibilities requirements or
Equivalent experience (e.g., military, industry) may be substituted for 8,100 documented hours or any other industry experience requirements
Hanford instrument specialists who are not trained and qualified via a trade school program or equivalent military experience are qualified to perform specific tasks through demonstrating knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to their assigned duties.
Must be able to qualify as a radiological worker. Must be able to qualify as a hazardous waste worker. Must be able to wear mask.
Desired Qualifications
- Expertise in electronics, analytical equipment, and instrument calibration is a positive.
Compensation & Benefits
Entry Level Hourly Rate: $54.397
Top Level Hourly Rate: $57.261
In accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the salary offered for this position will be reflective of the assigned job classification and associated wage scale. Actual placement on the wage scale will be based on a candidate's education, training and/or experience. A step rate increase will be implemented every six months (as applicable) until the top rate of the wage scale is reached.
