About the role
HealthFitness is excited to welcome a Recreation Coordinator to our onsite team in Research Triangle Park/Durham, NC . This role is a great opportunity for individuals interested in building a career in the fitness and recreation field while helping create engaging, community‑focused programs that support overall well‑being. In this position, the Recreation Coordinator plays a key role in supporting both recreation and fitness initiatives—from organizing and implementing programs to helping evaluate and expand offerings over time.
Individuals with industry‑recognized and HealthFitness‑approved Personal Training and/or Group Exercise certifications may also have the opportunity to lead individual and group fitness classes, adding variety and hands‑on experience to the role.
Full-time | 40 hours/week
Schedule: Monday–Friday, closing shift (11:30 AM–8:00 PM)
This position may offer flexibility to work an earlier shift on Mondays and Fridays (10:00–6:30 PM or 10:30–7:00 PM).
Responsible for providing outstanding service to members and program participants to maximize participation, outcomes and customer satisfaction.
Key Accountabilities:
Oversees all programming, development, design, implementation and evaluation of the recreation program.
Promotes recreation program offerings and conducts outreach activities to increase participation.
Creates and maintains league and tournament brackets.
Supervises recreation program and facilities; interacts with participants and monitors equipment and participant safety.
Designs flyers and posters for recreation league, Projects, Gym Special Events.
Performs recreation maintenance responsibilities; ensures playing facilities and equipment are functional and always stocked.
Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management or related discipline required or an equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience.
Current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications required from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council or American Safety & Health Institute. Note: certification must have an in-person component and not 100% online/OSHA compliant.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Experience in running leagues and creating tournament brackets required.
Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet program needs.
Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work demands.
Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
Stand out to our team by having:
- Industry recognized Group Exercise certification from ACE, AFAA/NASM, ACSM, NCCPT, NETA -or- NCCA Accredited Personal Trainer certification from an Industry recognized and HealthFitness approved agency (not required)
Compensation: $21 - $24/hour. Pay is dependent on experience and qualifications. Additional commission opportunities for someone with an industry recognized and HealthFitness approved Personal Trainer certification.
