Renton Technical College Seasonal Grounds Worker in Renton, Washington
Do you enjoy working outside and want your work environment to be with plants and nature? Join our team as a Seasonal Grounds Worker! The Seasonal Grounds Worker is an hourly and on-call position that performs basic grounds maintenance for upkeep, repair, renovation and new landscape work on campus. The Grounds Workers will provide assistance for all grounds maintenance upkeep and landscape operations. This position is part of the Facilities team and will report directly to the Grounds Worker Lead. This position will remain open until filled.
The position is scheduled to begin upon selection.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
- Maintain and repair existing lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers in a healthy and attractive state.
- Operate mowers, edger's, blowers and vacuums, and hand tools, and other specified types of small power equipment necessary to complete certain jobs.
- Install new lawns.
- Paint parking lots.
- Apply sawdust chips, bark, gravel, etc., where requested.
- Prepare flower beds and large areas for seeding.
- Maintain lawns and flower beds to include watering, grooming plants, and general weeding.
- Operates small hand tools.
- Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Ground's Worker Lead.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment.
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, including knowledge of the proper operations of and safety practices related to landscaping power and hand tools.
- Previous grounds experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to perform self-directed job responsibilities in a timely, efficient manner.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb a ladder to heights of 25 feet and be on your feet for an 8-hour shift.
- Ability to perform moderate physical labor for extended periods of time.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Must be self-motivated and be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS: Employees are required to wear long pants and close toed shoe's (boots are pref
