SUMMARY DESCRIPTION The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for the leadership and implementation of comprehensive instructional initiatives and plans for students with disabilities, ranging from 3 - 22 years of age. The Special Education Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting school administrators, teachers, and staff in ensuring that students with disabilities receive appropriate services in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position assists in the implementation and monitoring of special education programs, provides professional development, and collaborates with stakeholders to enhance student success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Program Oversight and Compliance
- Support school administrators in ensuring compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Nevada Administrative Code (NAC).
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
- Monitor and review student data to ensure appropriate services are provided.
- Assist in preparing reports and documentation for audits, compliance reviews, due processes, potential corrective action plans and state/federal reporting.
- Coordinate and implement the results of administrative review, mediation, and due process, and corrective action plans
- Responsible for the coordination, effective delivery, and outcomes of Extended School Year programming, Child Find, and Transition services, as assigned.
Training and Professional Development
- Provide training and technical assistance to school staff on special education laws, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate with the Special Education Directors and Office of Academics to identify, develop, and deliver professional development for administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
- Support school teams in implementing inclusive practices and accommodations to meet the diverse needs of students.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Closely collaborates with assigned school leaders in support of students, staff, and families. Provides responsive, expert service and follow-through.
- Supports department staff and site administrators as an administrative liaison between the Office of Academics, departments and schools within the district.
- Works in consultation with school leaders to review academic, behavioral, and other relevant data to implement programming, resolve challenges, and ensure educational equity for students with disabilities.
- Establishes relationships and leverages internal and external resources to support administrators, district special education programs, students, and families.
- Supports staff in planning and preparation for IEP meetings and other student support planning sessions, especially in complex cases.
- Proactive in taking action to minimize due process complaints including intensive monitoring, intervention, mediation, and creative problem-solving.
Leadership and Supervision
- Mentors and supervises Special Education Facilitators, related service providers, certified staff, and Education Support Professional staff as assigned, including the evaluation process.
Data Management and Decision-Making
- Builds the capacity of others with respect to understanding and utilizing data to inform decision-making for appropriate interventions and reinforcements.
- Manages and directs various project , data collection, and documentation for programs in the Office of Academics.
Policy and Budget Management
Responsible for management and oversight of assigned budget(s), including projected needs for fiscal areas of responsibility.
Includes primary accountability for assigned Independent Contractor Agreements (ICA) and vendor contracts.
Ensures proper timekeeping for assigned staff.
