Eaton Corporation Environmental Health & Safety Technician - 1st Shift in Reno, Nevada
Eaton’s ES GEIS BLD division is currently seeking a Environmental Health & Safety Technician - 1st Shift to join our team in Reno, NV!
The core hours are 6 am - 2:30 pm. Overtime may exceed these hours and be mandatory at times.
The hourly rate for this position is $34.20 per hour.

What you’ll do:
The Environmental Health & Safety Technician is responsible for implementing and maintaining regulatory requirements relating to OSHA, RCRA, EPA, and DOT, as well as working with engineers and technicians daily to ensure our Eaton Reno NV facility can support the focus factories cadence goals while meeting all environmental, health, and safety objectives.
In this function you will:
• Recognize requirements and ensure compliance to safety programs and standards including hazard communication, slip/trip/falls, fall protection, confined space, hot work, respiratory protection, lockout/tag-out (LOTO), machine guarding, power and hand-held tools, electrical, emergency shower and eyewash, and chemical management.
• Perform boots on the ground safety oversight by identifying and correcting workplace hazards and unsafe conditions.
• Identify workplace safety hazards and conditions for job-related tasks.
• Maintain and implement compliance of site-specific safety policies.
• Perform hazardous and non-hazardous waste management including proper handling, labeling, and storage.
• Monitor waste at satellite accumulation areas and move full containers to Central Accumulation Area (CAA).
• Order and maintain adequate spill supplies: spill pads, empty drums, secondary containment, and other equipment necessary to maintain safe handling and correct disposal of hazardous waste.
• Help manage the storage of hazardous waste.
• Assist with other campus-wide operations and maintenance programs assigned by facilities management.
• Understand MESH system.
• Own MESH elements
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years of Manufacturing Experience
• Minimum of 1 year of experience with health and safety plans and policies.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with use of and training for scaffolding, cranes, forklifts, boom and scissor lifts, lifting straps/slings, and fall protection equipment.
• Experience with emergency response crews in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water.
• Experience using Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook).
• 2+ years of hands-on technician experience in an environment, health, and safety role.
Skills:
• Ability to multi-task, to manage shifting priorities and to follow through on projects with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a high-concentration, fast-paced environment, and work well on a team.
• Ability to recognize construction or industrial storm water requirements, Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control plan (SPCC) requirements and address spills in a compliant manner.
• Ability to read, understand, and communicate work-related safety instructions, procedures, blueprints, and other documentation both verbally and in writing as required for a safe and effective job performance.
• Basic computers skills (Windows, MSOffice, and other related industrial software)
• Strong communication skills to work with all employees throughout plant.
• Requires PPE to include safety glasses, steel-toe shoes with met guards, wear area appropriate PPE including FR clothing and hearing protection (as required in high noise areas).
• Employee must be able to work in a heavy industrial environment with large manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time; bend and lift up to 50lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including overtime and weekends.
• Able to train employees in tasks related to safety and environmental.
