SUMMARY DESCRIPTION The Director of Athletics and Activities K-12 provides strategic leadership and oversight for all interscholastic athletic programs and leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of athletics and activities across the district. The director ensures compliance with federal, state and NIAA rules and regulations around interscholastic athletics. This role ensures compliance with governing regulations, supports and supervises school-based leaders, and promotes consistent, high-quality athletic and activity programs across all schools.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *Leadership and Program Development
- Design, plan, develop, and implement a district-wide athletic program aligned with WCSD's mission and vision
- Develop and implement district-wide athletics policies and procedures.
- Develop administrative regulations, procedures, and guidance for athletics.
- Provide guidance for school clubs and activities.
- Oversee middle school and elementary athletic programs.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, district, and Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) regulations for interscholastic athletics.
- Oversee compliance with state athletic regulations, NIAA, and district policies.
- Ensures athletic eligibility requirements for Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) are implemented and followed at all school sites.
- Establish, maintain, and communicate appeal and complaint procedures for athletics.
Leadership of Staff and Professional Development
- In collaboration with Principals, supervises school-site athletic directors.
- Build leadership capacity and ensure alignment of athletic programs across all school sites.
- Lead and facilitate professional learning, training, and development for athletic directors.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement among athletic staff.
- Guide implementation of district priorities through site-based athletic leadership.
Operations, Representation and Communication
- Manage budgets, contracts, facility use, and scheduling for athletic events and programs.
- Develop and monitor fundraising, marketing, and communication efforts related to athletics.
- Prepare reports, proposals, and presentations for district leadership and the school board.
- Serves as the Superintendent's representative and voting member to the NIAA on behalf of the district.
- Serves as the primary liaison between WCSD, NIAA, community partners, and stakeholders.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in educational leadership, or athletic administration certification or a related field required. Experience: Four (4) years administrative experience, preferably at the high school level or certified athletic administration experience required. Licenses/Certificates: Nevada Department of Education School Administrator License or Certified Athletic Administrator/Certified Athletic Master Administrator preferred.
