SUMMARY DESCRIPTION The Director of the Northwest Regional Professional Development Program exercises vision and consistent articulation of the mission of the NWRPDP. This position coordinates the provision of high-quality professional development for Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe Counties based upon the Nevada Professional Development Standards. In addition to overseeing regional employees, this position holds responsibility for the fiscal matters of the Program . Moreover, it involves the crucial tasks of planning, organizing, and directing professional development initiatives for certified and administrative staff. within the local school districts and schools in the area.

*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *

  • Provides leadership in professional development design and evaluation for a regional service center.
  • Assists in the development, planning and implementation of district/school professional development goals and objectives, aligned with District and School Improvement/Performance Plans and with the Nevada Professional Development Standards.
  • Provide support to districts regarding Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS), assessment of the NVACS and employee evaluation systems.
  • Directs, oversees, and participates in the development and implementation of a plan for continuous improvement in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assigns work activities, projects, and programs.
  • Monitors workflow: reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures.
  • Conducts research, analyzes findings, develops sound conclusions, and prepares comprehensive reports, budgets and any other information as required and/or requested from the NWRPDP Governing Board, Statewide Coordinating Council, Nevada Department of Education, Legislative Counsel Bureau, and/or any other requesting agency.
  • Assumes responsibility for the preparation of an annual self-evaluation of the NWRPDP in accordance with state law; responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints.
  • Prepares and oversees complex annual and biennial budgets.
  • Directs the forecasting of funds needed for staffing, professional development, services, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Monitors and approves expenditures.
  • Establishes budget priorities based upon the Northwest Region's District and School Improvement Plan goals with the guidance and approval of the NWRPDP Governing Board.
  • Assists in the selection of NWRPDP staff and other related service providers; provides reports to the legislature and districts, as necessary.
  • Supervises, deploys, and evaluates certified and classified staff assigned to the NWRPDP and other related service providers in collaboration with other designated district administrators.
  • Works with superintendents, assistant superintendents, directors, principals, teacher committees, and task forces in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the staff development programs throughout the districts within the Northwest Region.
  • Assists principals and school improvement planning teams in the improvement of student achievement.
  • Helps districts within the Northwest Region with professional development support and materials consistent with the Nevada Professional Development Standards, state law, and Academic Standards.
  • Participates in state-wide Coordinating Council meetings; and coordinates and/or provides staff development activities for NWRPDP staff.
  • This position operates under the administrative guidance of the NWRPDP Governing Board , NRS, and the statewide Coordinating Council. The NWRPDP Governing Board , along with the district superintendents and their representatives, conducts an annual evaluation of the NWRPDP Director's performance . The Director's work is assessed through conferences and reports that assess the achievement of program objectives and the effectiveness of service delivery.
  • Performs other duties and assumes responsibilities as assigned by the NWRPDP Governing Board.

Communication and Collaboration

  • This position directly oversees the NWRPDP staff, and other designated service providers including all contracted support.
  • Regular communication is maintained with members of the Governing Board and Statewide Coordinating Council, regional trainers, district officials, administrators, other district staff, external agencies, the Legislative Counsel Bureau, and the public.
  • The purpose of these interactions is to exchange information, address complaints, and provide requested explanations and information.
