About the Role

We are seeking a Analyst to join Norstella’s Real‑World Data (RWD) team. This role is an individual contributor position focused on building high‑quality, specification‑driven data extracts that support client delivery across real‑world data products.

The Data Analyst will work hands‑on with large healthcare datasets, translating clinical and technical requirements into reliable database queries and extract logic. The role partners closely with analytics, data engineering, and delivery teams and contributes to the consistent, accurate production of client‑facing datasets across a range of real‑world data sources.

Key Responsibilities

Data Extract Development & Implementation

  • Build client‑specific data extracts based on well‑defined technical and clinical documentation

  • Translate real‑world data specifications into executable SQL logic

  • Develop and maintain database queries and procedures used to extract and structure RWD

  • Implement extract logic in accordance with documented definitions, inclusion criteria, and business rules

  • Follow established version‑controlled workflows to support reproducibility and traceability

Real-World Data Support

  • Work directly with large‑scale healthcare datasets, including:

  • Open and closed claims data

  • EHR / EMR data

  • Lab data

  • NLP‑derived and other unstructured data

  • Apply working knowledge of healthcare data structures and coding systems when building extracts

  • Account for source‑specific considerations during extract development

Quality & Delivery Support

  • Perform routine review of extract outputs to ensure consistency with specifications

  • Troubleshoot extract logic and data issues in collaboration with peers

  • Incorporate feedback and updates into existing extract logic as requirements evolve

  • Support downstream delivery processes by producing reliable, well‑documented outputs

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Collaborate closely with analytics, engineering, and client-facing delivery teams to clarify requirements and implementation details

  • Participate as a collaborative member of a team‑based delivery model

  • Communicate clearly around extract logic, assumptions, and known data considerations

  • Contribute to shared documentation and team knowledge bases

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Public Health, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a related field

  • 2+ years of experience working with and querying large healthcare databases

  • Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex multi‑table queries

  • Hands‑on experience working with real‑world healthcare data, such as claims, EHR/EMR, and lab data

  • Understanding of the life sciences industry and drug development lifecycle

  • Experience implementing well‑defined data specifications

  • Prior experience using Git or other version control systems in a collaborative environment

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively within structured requirements

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to unstructured or NLP‑derived healthcare data

  • Experience translating clinical or scientific documentation into database logic

  • Experience with data analysis and pipeline tools such as Python, R, Airflow, or similar

  • Experience supporting client‑facing or downstream data delivery workflows

  • Comfort working in governed, production‑oriented data environments

  • Experience collaborating with clients to understand their needs and translate them into actionable data outputs
