As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the CHSE (Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Lead mechanical engineers to develop systems and building blocks for Azure datacenters
Bring clarity, create energy, and drive results in a way that inspires engineers to perform at their best and grow their career
Provide technical guidance, development, and mentorship in mechanical design, validation, and technical leadership
Develop scalable workflows with focus on continuous improvement, quality, cost, and predictability
Ensure high standards of engineering excellence in design and development balanced with the need for agility and time to market
Build relationships with key partners inside and outside Microsoft to source components, lead design strategy, ensure robust performance prediction, review manufacturing processes, and ensure adherence to regulatory, quality, and safety standards
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems, provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Drive strategy for mechanical design materials and design strategy with keen focus on sustainable materials with respect to their mechanical properties and re-use of common parts across generations.
Stay abreast of the latest trends, advancements, and best practices in mechanical engineering, cloud infrastructure, and data center technologies, and propose innovative ideas to enhance our hardware offerings
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience
OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience
OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related technical engineering experience
OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 15 years experience in industry performing a mechanical engineering function
Technical Skills: Understanding of mechanical design principles and predictive analysis, material selection, manufacturing processes, and use of CAD and CAE software
Leadership Abilities: At least five years experience leading a team of engineers, coordinating complex projects, and driving innovation in a collaborative environment
Industry experience in server hardware development, data center infrastructure, or cloud computing
Experience in sheet metal design, PCA mechanical design, plastic design
Experience in cross-discipline design process from chip to the rack level
Experience managing ODM engineering deliverables
Knowledge of material science, design for manufacturing, and sustainable design
Experience with prototyping, tooling design, and high volume manufacturing
Mechanical Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
