You will collaborate with world-class teams across engineering disciplines—including electrical, optical, firmware, software, and industrial design—to deliver innovative solutions for wearable devices, robotics, infrastructure, and research initiatives. Your work could span the full product lifecycle, from concept inception and feasibility studies to mass production and deployment.

Opto-Mechanical Engineer, Research Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design: Independently manage and deliver medium-complexity mechanical assemblies or subsystems, driving technical solutions from concept to production
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external partners, including supply chain, manufacturing, and cross-disciplinary engineering teams
Prototyping & Testing: Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and characterization test systems
conduct feasibility studies and failure analysis
Product Development Cycle: Drive projects from early concept through prototyping, validation, and mass production, supporting manufacturing partners worldwide
Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and influence program strategy and execution
Innovation: Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solve complex mechanical problems in consumer electronics, robotics, infrastructure, and research
Documentation & Communication: Generate and manage technical documentation, specifications, and clear communication across teams and stakeholders
Travel: Support manufacturing and development activities with travel to external vendors and partners as needed
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent industry experience)
6+ years of industry experience in mechanical design, including shipping high-volume commercial products or complex electromechanical assemblies
Proficiency in 3D/2D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Creo)
Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
Working knowledge of material properties (plastics, metals, adhesives, glass, PCBA, flex circuits, etc.)
Experience with high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, injection molding, die casting, etc.)
Testing and analysis experience (FEA, Simulation, Design of Experiments, etc.)

Experience with design and prototyping of head-mounted optical systems and/or bench-top optical setups
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or related field (or equivalent industry experience)
3+ years of specific industry experience in Opto-mechanical design, including shipping high-volume commercial products or complex opto-mechanical assemblies
Experience in Camera Module design and managing/delivering camera module structure and packaging from concept to production
Experience in designing miniaturized camera modules in wearable devices
Familiar with Active Alignment (AA) process for camera module assembly
Proficiency in using NX software for creating 2D and 3D MCOs
Basic structural and thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Familiarity with optical simulation and ray tracing software (e.g., Zemax, Code V, LightTools) is a definite plus
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
Public Compensation:
$144,000/year to $204,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
