Jacobs Senior Overhead Contact System (OCS) Engineer in Redding, California
At Jacobs, we’re using innovative rail and electrification solutions to build a more connected, sustainable, and resilient future—environmentally, socially, and economically. We’re looking for a Senior Overhead Contact System (OCS) Engineer to join our growing team and lead the design of catenary systems for high‑speed rail, commuter rail, light rail, and streetcar projects across the United States. This role may be based anywhere in California, with travel required depending on project needs.
What You’ll Do
You will serve as a technical leader in the planning and design of OCS systems, contributing to some of the most transformative rail programs in the country. Your responsibilities will include:
Developing catenary design reports, plans, calculations, specifications, and cost estimates for OCS projects.
Performing detailed design calculations and preparing technical documentation aligned with client requirements and California regulatory expectations.
Designing OCS layout plans, wire profiles, and support structures including cantilevers, portals, headspans, hardware assemblies, grounding, and bonding systems.
Leading or contributing to the design of new catenary systems and modifications to existing systems.
Coordinating with multidisciplinary Jacobs teams, external engineering partners, and rail agency stakeholders throughout California and nationwide.
Supporting proposal development, including conceptual design approaches and labor estimates.
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
Significant professional experience in the design of catenary/OCS systems.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
Ability and willingness to travel for site visits, client meetings, and project coordination.
Ideally you will also have:
Professional Engineer (PE) license, ideally in California or with the ability to obtain CA licensure.
Experience working on California rail programs (e.g., high‑speed rail, commuter rail, transit agencies).
Familiarity with California codes, standards, and environmental requirements related to rail infrastructure.
