Montgomery Place Orchards AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT OPERATOR in Red Hook, New York

Manually and by use of hand tools: plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables & fruit such as; apples, peaches, plums, grapes, berries & tomatoes. Duties include tilling soil, transplanting, weeding, thinning and pruning crops and apple tree grafting. Inform farmers or farm manager of crop progress. Record information about crops. Three months verifiable experience required in in all job duties described as well as antique apple varieties, heirloom tomatoes, and unique peach varieties. Select harvesting of mature fruit over several pickings while field grading for direct sales at our farm market. After 4 days of training a minimum productivity standard applies; 80 bu boxes of fresh market apples per day. All fruit to be handled with care to avoid bruising. Fruit injured by bruising, not to exceed 4%. Must be physically able to lift up to 75 lbs on a consistent basis throughout the day. While working in the field, all cell phone usage is limited to emergency use only. Due to health & safety concerns on our farm workers must understand basic instruction in English.
Employees with a valid drivers license may be requested to drive. Not all workers are requested to drive. No one will be rejected for the position that does not possess a class D license. The designated, licensed, employee whom we request to drive other workers to conduct errands for banking, grocery shopping or medical needs, will be offered additional hours for such activity and will be compensated at the current wage rate, including overtime pay when due.
Requirements:
- Three months verifiable experience required
- Ability to understand basic instructions in English
- Lifting requirement of 75 lbs.
