Job Description
The Procurement Specialist manages complex automotive commodities and suppliers, driving piece price investment decisions and annual cost reductions that significantly impact overall financial performance. This role develops and executes commodity and supplier strategies, selects and negotiates with suppliers, and ensures that cost, quality, development, and delivery objectives are consistently met. The position requires strong collaboration with design and global stakeholders, as well as leadership in project management and mentoring of junior team members.
Responsibilities
Develop, gain approval for, and execute purchasing models and supplier strategies for assigned complex commodities and suppliers, typically managing 8–10 suppliers with an annual spend of approximately 300M–500M.
Research and monitor industry trends, sourcing technologies, and market pricing to inform and refine commodity and supplier strategies.
Lead and coordinate new model supplier selection activities, managing 13–17 model developments in collaboration with design teams and global stakeholders.
Ensure accurate and timely supplier selection and bill of materials (BOM) maintenance for assigned parts and programs.
Build, maintain, and strengthen strategic relationships with key suppliers to support long-term business objectives.
Establish and achieve logical new model cost targets through supplier selection and negotiation, working closely with suppliers and design teams on complex commodities.
Drive annual mass production cost improvement initiatives and achieve annual cost reduction (ACR) goals in the range of approximately 7M–12M.
Ensure accurate and timely quotation processing to support efficient and on-time payments to suppliers at mass production timing.
Effectively manage projects that support business needs, including ACR initiatives, general model launches, and diversity-related sourcing activities.
Create, implement, and sustain continuous improvement activities that support lean purchasing practices and process efficiency.
Mentor and develop entry-level purchasing staff, sharing best practices in procurement, supplier management, and negotiation.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders in purchasing, supply chain, engineering, and finance to align sourcing decisions with business and financial goals.
Use ERP and procurement systems, including SAP, to manage purchase orders, track supplier performance, and maintain accurate purchasing records.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field.
3+ years of procurement experience, preferably in a complex manufacturing or automotive environment.
Proven experience sourcing and negotiating directly with suppliers.
Strong knowledge of purchasing processes, including purchase order management and supplier selection.
Experience with ERP systems, including SAP, for purchasing and supply chain activities.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple suppliers and large annual spend across complex commodities.
Strong analytical skills to evaluate cost structures, market trends, and supplier quotations.
Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of achieving cost reduction and value improvement.
Effective project management skills to coordinate multiple new model developments and sourcing initiatives.
Ability to build and maintain productive supplier relationships and internal stakeholder partnerships.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to present strategies, gain consensus, and document decisions.
Ability to drive continuous improvement and support lean purchasing practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous automotive industry experience is highly desirable.
Experience working with global supply bases and cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with supplier performance management and continuous improvement initiatives.
Exposure to cost modeling and target setting for new model development.
Ability to mentor and develop junior purchasing professionals.
Interest in long-term career growth within a procurement or supply chain organization.
Work Environment
This role operates in a professional cubicle office environment within an automotive development center. The position is fully onsite during the training period, then transitions to a hybrid schedule of four days onsite and one day remote each week. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, either 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., providing some flexibility in start and end times. The team uses ERP systems, including SAP, and other standard office and procurement tools to manage purchasing activities and supplier performance. The work culture emphasizes long-term growth opportunities, continuous improvement, and lean practices, with a strong focus on collaboration across purchasing, supply chain, and engineering. A comprehensive benefits package is available upon conversion to permanent employment. Honda uniforms are provided and required as the standard dress code in the facility.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.06/hr.
