Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC Mechanical Design Senior Engineer in Raymond, Ohio
As member of the Power Unit Division, design engine components & systems and develop powertrain technologies for vehicles, ensuring that all marketability, reliability, regulatory, profitability, manufacturing, and design requirements and targets are met. Role focuses on the main unit engine parts including cylinder block & head, connecting rod assembly, crankshaft, camshaft, oil pan, etc. Design includes creating 3D models, 2D drawings, simulation (CAE), BOM management, cost calculation, tolerance stack analysis, schedule management, and coordination with other development departments, suppliers, and manufacturing. This role has ownership responsibility for assigned parts and systems from design concept through mass production launch phase. While this role does not typically directly supervise associates, it may require directing contingent staff to handle portions of assigned tasks, mentoring student engineers, or providing coaching and guidance to less experienced coworkers.
Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering; 5 years of relevant professional experience; 5 years of experience in automotive engineering; 5 years of experience with CATIA CAD software while creating/modifying 3D parametric models including solids workbench; 5 years of experience with 2D drafting, creating fully dimensioned 2D drawings with appropriate tolerances; 5 years of experience with development schedule management, creating and managing part development schedules; 5 years of experience with cross-functional design issue management, leading resolution of cross-functional design issues by identifying decision making factors, gathering/summarizing relevant data, & negotiating with related parties; 5 years of experience with design for manufacturing & assembly, designing parts with understanding and consideration for manufacturing and assembly processes; 5 years of experience with design optimization for cost, estimating design cost, evaluating supplier quotations, and modifying designs to reduce part cost; and 3 years of experience with tolerance stack analysis, analyzing clearance by identifying factors of variation and calculating tolerance stack ups.
