Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Sr. Applications Engineer.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $97000 - $ 115,000 a year.

What you’ll do:
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Eaton located in Raleigh, NC has an opening for an Sr. Applications Engineer (AE) in the Critical Power Solutions business. We offer innovative, flexible, and scalable solutions that protect IT, medical and other critical equipment from hazards and outages that can disrupt service and cause significant losses to business. Products include Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), batteries and/or DC storage devices.
The Applications Engineer is part of the Product Marketing team for Critical Power Solutions. Our primary customers are Multi-tenant, Enterprise and Hyperscale Datacenters, Healthcare and Mission Critical facilities. The AE provides quotations, proposals, and technical response for projects containing Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), batteries and/or DC storage devices, switchgear, services and ancillary equipment. The AE also takes customer requirements for customized product, testing, or service and develops an Eaton offering to meet the request. The AE processes orders at time of receipt, generates submittal documentation as required, and provides technical and commercial support to the Project Engineering group through the design and approval process. This position also assists in the preparation, presentation, and discussion with clients and consultants about projects and solutions. Internally, the application engineer works closely with the sales team, product lines, project management organization, project engineering and manufacturing group.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A. Examines assigned requests and identifies standard or custom products; establishes offering in response.
B. Creates documentation as required for proposals; generates and submits customer drawings for approval.
C. Provides technical reviews of orders.
D. Defines customer requirements in terms of equipment and documentation.
E. Recommends most cost-effective configuration to meet technical requirements. Performs cost and profit estimates as required for final pricing approval. Compares pricing to competitive benchmarks to set market guidance.
F. Expedites all activities as required to meet customer required submittal dates.
G. Defines requirements and technical accuracy (via workflow and major purchase specifications) on proposals that have been accepted by customer and become orders.
H. Works with vendors and Eaton suppliers to quote the most competitive solutions possible.
I. Participates in face-to-face meetings with customers in order to best position Eaton for success in pre-sales, proposal review, and approval phases of projects.
J. Acts as the department lead for a designated market segment, understanding market drivers, unique requirements, competitors, and Eaton messaging and strategy to win
K. Works as part of a team to ensure accountability for deadlines, accuracy, and competitive proposals
L. Supports Inside Sales Team on custom power quality requests and system design needs
M. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering, project management or product management.
• Three years (3) experience in electrical industry.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Product and technical knowledge of 3-phase UPS equipment applications.
• Familiarity with UPS equipment or products including UPS Battery Backup Systems.
• Experience with power distribution or electronics Experience in the application of power conversion products as it applies to UPS.
• Excellent knowledge of Bidman, Enovia and/or SAP.
• Experience in electrical installation methods, practices, and applicable local and national electrical codes.
• Familiarity with AI Data center equipment or design.
• Experience in factory and field troubleshooting methods and equipment.
• Experience in power switchgear and distribution techniques, electrical power distribution and controls .
• Knowledge in the use of PLC’s for design and control systems.
• Knowledge with AutoCAD type drawings and software.

Additional Information:
Encompasses all aspects of custom products/modified standard products, RFP/RFQ's from receipt of customer request for proposal to issue of Engineered To Order (ETO). Typically, has responsibility for proposals, orders valued between several thousand to several million dollars. After order is entered, some continued technical support of the customer is generally required.
This position also requires strong communication skills and PC literacy, especially in Excel and Adobe. Able to effectively manage deadlines and respond quickly to requests and changes.
