Job Description:
Trinnex is hiring a Solutions Architect to lead the technical design and delivery of data integration and analytics platforms for municipal water and wastewater utilities. This role reports into the Consulting Services organization within Trinnex, a CDM Smith company.
This is a consulting role: you'll work directly with utility clients to understand their operational challenges, define a technical strategy, and architect the cloud infrastructure and data pipelines that bring it to life. Our engagements span enterprise data warehousing, real-time operational dashboards, asset analytics, and web-based process simulation environments for operator training. You'll need to be equally comfortable whiteboarding a system architecture with a client's IT director and writing transformation logic.
Key Responsibilities
Client-Facing Architecture & Strategy
• Lead technical discovery with utility clients, translating operational workflows and pain points into data architecture requirements and solution roadmaps.
• Define integration strategies that bridge IT and OT environments — ingesting and normalizing data from SCADA historians, CMMS, GIS (Esri), ERP, LIMS, and AMI/AMR systems into unified cloud platforms.
• Present architectural recommendations to client stakeholders ranging from plant operators to executive leadership.
Cloud Data Platform Design
• Architect secure, scalable cloud data environments primarily on the Microsoft stack (Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI), with awareness of alternative platforms as client needs dictate.
• Design structured data layers using Medallion Architecture and dimensional modeling (Star Schema) to support both operational guidance tools and executive-level reporting.
• Establish data governance frameworks covering quality, lineage, access control (RBAC), and compliance — particularly for sensitive SCADA and operational data.
Digital Twin & Simulation Infrastructure
• Architect the backend infrastructure for process simulation modules, including time-stepped execution environments for calibrated dynamic models used in operator training, scenario analysis, and SOP validation.
• Design the data orchestration layer that feeds real-time and historical plant data into simulation engines and returns results to web-based interfaces.
Delivery & Technical Leadership
• Guide development teams within Agile Scrum delivery, working alongside product owners and client strategic leads to translating roadmaps into sprint-level work.
• Establish and enforce architectural standards, code review practices, and documentation norms across project teams.
• Contribute to proposals, scoping exercises, and level-of-effort estimates for new engagements.
• Travel to client sites expected (estimate 15–25%, varies by engagement).

• Hands-on experience designing data integration pipelines and cloud data warehouses, preferably on Microsoft Azure / Fabric.
• Strong data modeling skills — dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT design patterns, and performance optimization for analytics workloads.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical utility stakeholders and build trust as a strategic advisor.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work in a cross functional team environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and complex problem-solving capabilities.
