Job Summary
The Site Safety Manager serves as the specialist in safety by developing and implementing best practices and procedures for a Raleigh, North Carolina project. The Site Safety Manager will effectively mitigate hazards and minimize accidents and health exposures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The following are the primary duties, though others may be assigned as necessary:
Collaborate with Safety Director (“SD”) on safety policies, procedures and safety manual
Assist in the daily JSA development with the Safety Project team for specific work activities
Inspect tools/equipment with assistance from the Safety Project team
Coordinate with the Safety Director to variance for site specific safety issues (i.e., fall protection)
Attend joint safety meetings with the client and project team
Coordinate weekly/biweekly safety communications with Good Work Practices and safety communication to continually improve our safety culture
Assist in the development of improvement plans and training to improve safety procedures
Document injuries, report incidents, and investigate and manage claims
Develop and lead safety investigation to identify root cause analysis, developing improvement plans and assisting HR with personnel improvement plans or retraining requirements
Report, record and track injuries requiring medical treatment
Track and manage work related injuries
Submit incidents and near misses to the Safety Director
Document motor vehicle accidents and provide a detailed accident investigation
Prepare and submit proposals for training and safety measures, including equipment and processes
Provide safety orientations and provide new hire orientations for the project team
Coordinate in maintaining training records for the Company’s workforce
Assist in sourcing third party training courses
Assist in scheduling and documenting health exams post-accident drug testing
Develop/revise/audit safety hazard assessment documentation completion processes
Modify and develop JSA forms
Modify and develop monthly inspection form and assist with online form management
Develop, revise, and maintain project and site safety plans
Develop and approve job health risk assessments
Review and audit site job hazard analysis programs
Review and revise safety hazard assessments plans and document per client requirements
Work with Clients, General Contractors and Site Managers to correct site issues
Conduct job walks with clients
Attend meetings, including safety meetings, incident reviews, project kick-off, safety stand-downs, and other work process meetings)
Assist in development of best practices and protocols with clients and general contractors.
Assist in staff management
Provide guidance to work force and project management personnel
Promote the company’s safety culture and standards
Miscellaneous Other Duties
Assist in issuance of fall protection plans for projects
Assist in management of confined space equipment, plans and training
Assist in issuance and operation of 4-gas meters and calibration equipment
Assist in ordering safety equipment
Assist in evaluating, testing and standardizing PPE
Assist in problem solving safety issues
Provide first-aid, medical transport and triage
Ensure compliance with the Safety Program, OSHA regulations, company operating policies and procedures
Communicate critical and/or sensitive issues to the executive team with recommendation for resolution.
Perform additional assignments as required by Safety Director or as directed the project team.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in construction; proven successful experience in a safety role preferred
Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certificationis preferred.
OSHA 500 instructor certifications is preferred
Experience writing Health and Safety Plans (HASP’s) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA’s).
Fall Protection Competent Person
Deep understanding of occupational health and safety guidelines/regulations
In-depth knowledge of the construction industry, federal, state and city environmental and safety regulations and practices.
Ability to perform public speaking for safety training purposes.
Valid driver’s license in good standing.
Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel).
Working knowledge of project and financial software a plus.
