This role offers the opportunity to develop a career in civil, geotechnical, and construction services as an Engineering/Field Technician. You will perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials, support quality assurance on active construction sites, and contribute to the growth and reputation of a developing office in the Triad market. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, spending time outdoors, and taking on increasing responsibility over time.
Responsibilities
Visit active construction sites in the Triad market to perform field inspections and testing of construction materials.
Collect samples of soils, concrete, aggregates, asphalt, and other materials from job sites according to established procedures.
Perform field testing of concrete, soil, aggregates, and asphalt when appropriate based on material type, size, and quantity.
Transport collected samples to the office or laboratory for further testing and analysis when required.
Conduct laboratory testing of concrete, soil, aggregates, and asphalt to verify compliance with project specifications and standards.
Assist with soil inspections, concrete inspections, masonry inspections, and asphalt inspections under established guidelines.
Accurately document field and laboratory test results and observations in written reports.
Read, prepare, and submit clear and concise reports that communicate findings to project teams.
Maintain testing equipment, tools, and vehicles in clean, safe, and working condition.
Follow all safety procedures and site-specific requirements while working on construction sites and in the laboratory.
Work independently on assigned projects once trained, while maintaining strong communication with supervisors and team members.
Support the growth and reputation of the local office by providing reliable, professional service to project teams and clients.
Essential Skills
Ability to perform field and laboratory testing of concrete, soil, aggregates, and asphalt.
Experience or strong comfort with hands-on labor or field roles such as landscaping, farming, construction labor, or field service work.
High attention to detail when collecting samples, performing tests, and recording data.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and preparing reports.
Ability to read and write clear, accurate technical reports.
Ability to work independently in the field after initial training and onboarding.
Willingness to submit to an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) check to qualify for use of a company vehicle.
Basic understanding of or interest in civil, geotechnical, or construction services work.
Commitment to following safety procedures on construction sites and in laboratory environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
ACI (American Concrete Institute) certification is preferred.
ICC certifications are a plus.
Prior experience with soil inspections, concrete inspections, masonry inspections, and asphalt inspections is beneficial.
Experience with concrete testing and soil testing in field or laboratory settings is an advantage.
Strong interpersonal skills for working with field crews, project teams, and office staff.
Motivation to grow professionally and contribute to the expansion of a developing office in the region.
Work Environment
You will primarily work in the field on active construction sites in the Triad area, with additional time spent in the office and laboratory. During the first few months, you will ride with a team member to job sites for training and onboarding. Once up to speed, you will be assigned a company truck and will drive independently to various job locations. Most workdays involve being outdoors, working on sites that are in the early stages of construction, and traveling between the shop, laboratory, and multiple job sites. The environment is hands-on and active, with exposure to varying weather conditions and typical construction site conditions, supported by a collaborative team focused on safety, quality, and professional growth.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
