HOKE COUNTY Hoke Area Transit Service Vehicle Operator on Call 4 Position Available in Raeford, North Carolina
Description of Position:
On-Call position will be responsible for operating a medium sized county motor vehicle transporting people on an established route. The work involves skilled and safe operation of a car, van, or small bus transporting people to and from their destinations in a professional manner and to assist passengers on entry and exit from vehicles as necessary which can consist of wheelchair bound individuals. Employees maintain operational records, perform routine preventive maintenance on the vehicle, and perform other duties as required. Must be available to work (Monday - Friday) Flexible ON-CALL Schedules (Days and Hours TBD)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Employees must be knowledgeable of the proper operation and minor maintenance of the assigned vehicle; safe, defensive driving techniques; traffic laws and regulations; proper loading procedures; and relevant delivery routes. Work involves limited maneuvering of the vehicle. Work requires continued traffic monitoring, constant contact with steering mechanism and hand and eye coordination. The operation of the vehicle is done independently and governed by traffic rules and regulations. Work is assigned by verbal command; or in written form, through passenger lists and addresses, or letters. Work is closely reviewed to determine timeliness of reaching destinations, accuracy of records, condition of the vehicle by inspecting the vehicle and reading of operational records. Judgment is exercised regarding the safe operation of the vehicle and reaching the correct destinations in a timely manner. Work requires the ability to diagnose weather conditions such as rain, sleet or snow; to judge traffic levels; and to evaluate road conditions such as winding roads or narrowness in order to determine drive ability, rate of speed, ability to maneuver, and breaking ability. Must have the ability to read and write. Must be able to move up to 600 lbs assisting with wheelchairs and working with lifts.

Must meet all physical requirements as determined by the Department of Transportation guidelines - (Vision, Hearing, Motor Skills etc.) Examination will be required if selected for employment. Must be able to pass any certifications and training requirements as a condition of continued employment if selected for the position. Safety Sensitive position.
Minimum Training and Experience:
Completion of Grammar School. Prefer applicant have a high school diploma or equivalent. Appropriate North Carolina Drivers License for the weight and type of vehicle operated as required by the Department of Motor Vehicles. CDL License Required
Salary:
$15.75 per hour (no benefits)
