GE Aerospace Advanced Lead Design Engineer at Integrated Manufacturing Engineering – Rotating Parts and Compressor Airfoils in Queretaro, Mexico

Job Description Summary

This position is for an Advanced Lead Design Engineer within the Integrated Manufacturing Engineering (IME) organization. In this role you will own all engineering functions related to the production of rotating parts and compressor airfoils made by GE shops and external suppliers.

In this role, you will be on the front lines of an organization that is dedicated to improving the delivery and producibility, enhancing the Engineering-Supply chain relationship to improve the health of the supply chain and product to enable the business to fulfil our customers' expectations.

Examples of specific tasks you will be responsible for are: producibility design changes, on-going manufacturing support, and strategic improvements on production related processes of the assigned hardware.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor others in the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects, using engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

  • Lead the solution of complex technical problems, monitoring their progress and quality and ensuring schedule requirements are met.

  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments.

  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of engineering & manufacturing, analytical thinking, and technical experience to execute on technically complex projects to meet technical requirements and business goals with minimal technical oversight.

  • Use engineering judgement and experience to challenge entrenched processes and methodologies to recommend improvements.

  • Interact with engineers from multiple disciplines, manufacturing & quality, and regularly exposed to commodity and industry experts all while promoting open and honest dialogue.

  • Travel to manufacturing sites to gain practical knowledge of manufacturing, ensure parts are made according to design intent, discuss producibility issues and explore proposals of cost reduction.

  • Provide support to evaluate nonconforming hardware, producibility improvements, hardware delivery and vendor qualifications.

  • Check own and other people’s work.

  • Lead the implementation of innovative analysis, design, development concepts, processes, and system solutions.

  • Define technical schedule cost and/or program requirements.

  • Conduct assessments and develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems.

  • Participate in organizational efforts in design, analysis, test and manufacturing technology, quality, productivity, and other initiatives.

  • Lead the development of component assemblies, processes or systems and solve complex high impact problems.

  • Support team’s technical proficiency and growth.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • MUST BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN A NORMAL DAY TO DAY FLUID CONVERSATION IN ENGLISH ON ANY TOPIC. MUST HAVE FLUENCY, RHYTHM AND SUFFICIENT SLEF CONFIDENCE IN THE LANGUAGE TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE MEETINGS AND CONVERSATIONS.

  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechatronics engineering.

  • Fundamental understanding of turbomachinery system design.

  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in a relevant engineering role.

  • Solid contribution in a similar role or previous position

  • Presentation Skills: Ability to communicate with Senior Leadership.

  • Demonstrated ability in establishing common goals and objectives

  • Demonstrated ability in influencing and shaping team's long-term vision and strategy

  • Demonstrated ability in managing projects across functions

  • Capable of coaching others to accomplish assignments

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to influence others and to lead small teams

Desired Characteristics

  • MRB approver certification for rotating parts and/or airfoils.

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Previous experience in design of Aviation components.

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, especially of aerospace components.

  • Flexible and friendly approach to work in teams.

  • Experience on life analysis of aerospace components.

  • Proficient experience with Ansys and NX

  • Practical experience with GD&T.

  • Passion for problem solving and driving solutions, while constantly learning and mentoring others.
