The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Building and Grounds Technician in Queenstown, Maryland

Position Description:

This position is responsible for both building maintenance and grounds work, as needed, with a focus on buildings maintenance and repair. Extensive carpentry skills are required for this position.

Our Buildings and Grounds Technician can expect to

Perform a variety of general maintenance tasks including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, painting, drywall, and masonry.

Open and winterize buildings for the season.

Utilize the facility project management software.

Formulate and implement creative solutions for building issues.

Assist with special projects including prop construction for Camp activities.

Serve as a backup for swimming pool maintenance and operation.

Serve as backup to perform weekly fire pump tests.

Serve as backup to perform monthly inspections including HVAC filters, emergency lights and exit signs, and fire extinguishers.

Remove snow from roads, sidewalks, and parking lots, and spread ice removal products on sidewalks and parking lots during icy conditions being available for weekend work as needed.

Landscape ground areas throughout Camp including planting and trimming lawns, trees, bushes, hedges, and shrubs.

Assist in preparing tasks for and providing oversight for volunteer work groups.

Through positive leadership, demonstrate the core values of the organization.

Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Our Buildings and Grounds Technician should have

Three years of experience in building trades with a focus on carpentry and general building systems.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations related to areas of assignments.

The ability to establish positive relationships with a variety of people in multicultural environments.

Organizational and time management skills.

Self-starter ability and the ability to multi-task and prioritize work day while completing projects independently.

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

The ability to use computer software to obtain daily assignments and to document task progress.

A knowledge of methods of landscaping including mowing, trimming, felling trees, maintaining gravel roads and paths and snow removal.

The ability to operate a variety of hand and power equipment in a safe and effective manner.

The ability to safely perform all carpentry skills including framing, cabinetry, window and door installation, and general woodworking.

Extensive carpentry skills required.

The ability to communicate clearly with Facility Director and other team members.

The ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

The ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 9 hours.)

The ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends and on call hours as needed

A valid Driver's license and driving record which meets HITWG insurance carrier requirements. Ability to travel to assigned worksites.

Work schedule will generally coincide with weekends while programming is in session. Normally Wednesday-Sunday from May through October and Monday-Friday from November through April.
