We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering Specialist .
In this role:
You will lead the design and delivery of our next-generation Control Plane. This platform will drive secure, compliant, and scalable AI adoption across the bank, leveraging advanced technologies such as LLMs (Claude, RAG), Vector Databases, GitHub, and more.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the engineering vision and roadmap for the Control Plane, ensuring alignment with HSBC’s digital, security, and compliance priorities.
Platform Engineering: Architect and deliver robust, scalable, and secure platform components using modern AI/ML stacks (Claude, LLMs, RAG, Vector DBs).
AI Governance: Embed policy-as-code, real-time compliance, and data controls into all AI workflows and developer experiences.
Team Building & Mentorship: Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
Collaboration: Partner with global product, security, and compliance teams to ensure seamless integration and adoption of the Control Plane across HSBC.
DevOps & Automation: Champion best practices in CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and automated testing using tools like GitHub Actions and cloud-native services.
Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate technical vision and progress to senior leadership, translating complex concepts into business value.
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
12+ years in core engineering/platform roles, with at least 5 years in leadership positions.
Proven experience architecting and delivering large-scale, secure platforms (preferably in regulated industries).
Deep expertise in AI/ML technologies: LLMs (Claude, OpenAI, etc.), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Vector Databases, and prompt engineering.
Strong hands-on skills with modern DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud-native tooling (GitHub, Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.).
Demonstrated ability to embed policy-as-code and compliance automation into engineering workflows.
Track record of building and scaling high-performing, diverse engineering teams.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Passion for innovation, security, and responsible AI adoption.
Experience with financial services, data control, or regulatory technology.
Familiarity with open-source security, API governance, and digital platform consolidation.
Prior exposure to Karat-style technical interviews and engineering culture.
Certification in AWS, GCP, or other global AI/cloud platforms is highly desirable.
