The Opportunity:

 

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for a permanent, full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Pullman, WA, with a specialty in Statistics. We seek applicants who have an established or emerging research record in statistical learning or computational statistics. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Statistics, develop independent and collaborative research, establish an externally funded research program, and publish scholarly work. The candidate will also ideally develop interdisciplinary research collaborations with allied research groups in sciences, engineering, and other areas. Expected start date of employment is August 16, 2026.

 

Job duties:

 

• Maintenance of a strong record of publication and scholarly activity

 

• Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Statistics

 

• Establishment and leadership of a grant-supported research program in methodology and theory for statistical machine learning or modern statistical computation and, where applicable, development of interdisciplinary research collaborations with allied research groups in sciences, engineering, and other areas

 

• Advising graduate students at both the master's and doctoral levels

 

• Service contributions to the department, college, university, community, and profession.

 

Additional Information:

 

Annual Salary: $85,000-95,000 per nine-month academic year. | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

• Earned Ph. D. in Statistics, Mathematics with Statistics emphasis, Data Science, or a closely related field is required before the start of the position

 

• Demonstrated record for research in areas of statistics that complement and enhance the existing strengths with the current group of statisticians, probabilists, and applied mathematicians in the department, which includes, but not limited to, statistical learning or computational statistics

 

• Proven or potential for successful teaching and instruction
