Brown University Research Assistant in Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description:

The Research Assistant will conduct experiments in the field of spatial regulation of gene expression.

The Research Assistant will assist the PI in experiments involving general molecular biology procedures, cell culture, and basic laboratory management. The primary purpose of this position is to help the lab make progress toward its research goals of dissecting spatial regulation of gene expression. The Research Assistant will work closely with other staff (postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students) to perform experiments. This position will perform experiments according to established laboratory protocols, and will provide technical assistance, as instructed, toward the development of new procedures.

This is a fixed term position for one year from the date of hire which may be extended based upon available funding.

Job QualificationsEducation and Experience:

(Grade 7)

  • Bachelor’s Degree with prior related experience or extensive coursework required

  • And/or the equivalent combination of education and experience

(Grade 8)

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of experience required

  • And/or the equivalent combination or education and experience

Job Competencies:

  • Interest in scientific research

  • Excellent organizational, record keeping, task prioritization, and report preparation skills

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills, ability to implement solutions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to present complex data in clear presentations

  • Proficiency with computers and essential software programs (e.g. MS office, Google Suite, etc.)

  • Ability to collect and analyze data

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
