Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-driven Editor to provide proofreading, copyediting, and fact-checking services for paper publications and computer-delivered assessments. This role ensures all test materials are grammatically flawless, stylistically consistent, and aligned with program specifications.

The Editor will review and refine test items, manuscripts, typeset copy, certified copy, and printer proofs while adhering to established editorial processes and standards. This position requires advanced knowledge of grammar and language mechanics, including familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style , strong organizational skills, and the ability to use specialized test creation software in daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Proofread, edit, and fact-check a wide range of assessment materials across multiple subject areas

• Apply correct style conventions, including Chicago Manual of Style guidelines , and ensure alignment with test specifications

• Follow assessment development processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

• Utilize test creation software and workflow systems to edit and manage materials

• Serve as a grammar, style, and syntax resource for assessment specialists and staff

• Manage deadlines, communicate scheduling needs, and coordinate across departments

• Develop program-specific checklists and style guides to ensure quality control

• Conduct Fairness Reviews of test items as needed

• Maintain accurate records and ensure consistent documentation

• Uphold ethical standards and comply with applicable laws and regulations

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Experience:

• 1–3 years of editorial experience required

• Experience editing test items or assessment materials preferred

Working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style strongly preferred

Pay Details: $25.00 per hour
