The Associate Research Scientist provides scientific and technical skills in conceptualizing, designing, obtaining support for, conducting, managing and disseminating results of research products or portions of large-scale research studies or programs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide scientific and technical skills so as to contribute to conceptualizing, designing, obtaining support for, conducting, and managing one or more of the following: (1) research projects or (2) development projects, particularly those for which scientific principles are applied to the creation of tools to improve the efficiency or quality of the practice of test development or statistical analysis; new item types; (3) the scoring of responses to open-ended items; (4) innovative assessment prototypes or products. Disseminate results and implications of projects.
Generate or contribute to new or modified theories of educational processes, policy, research methodology and analytic or interpretative procedures.
Assist in the development of proposals and project budgets
Assist in the design and conduct of scientific studies
Assist in the conduct of research studies by accomplishing directed tasks according to schedule and within budget
Participate in dissemination activities through the publications of research papers in peer review journals and in the ETS Research Report series, the issuing of progress and technical reports, the presentation of seminars at major conferences and at ETS, or the use of other appropriate communication vehicles, including books and chapters, that impact practice in the field or at ETS.
Develop professional relationships as a representative, consultant or advisor to external advisory and policy boards and councils, research organizations, educational institutions and educators.

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a specific and relevant discipline (e.g. Psychology, Education, Statistics, Sociology, etc.)
Evidence of independent substantive research in an area of interest to ETS is required.
Research: Knowing how to investigate technical issues, policy interpretations and financial instruments through a systematic approach to the problem. It involves knowing and using the appropriate resources.
Communications: The ability to communicate clearly, diplomatically and effectively to an audience that may include, staff, investors, stockholders, stakeholders, clients, and others verbally and through announcements, newsletters, memos, annual reports, status reports and other media.
Problem Solving: Problem Solving is a step-by-step process of defining a problem, searching for information, and testing a series of solutions until the problem is solved. In involves critical thinking, analysis and persistence.
Financial Analysis: Reviewing financial quantitative or conceptual problems and situations, and drawing appropriate and valid conclusions from data presented, sifting through data to determine the most significant elements. Identifying common elements and themes in situations and actions; recognizing cause and effect relationships.
Budgeting: Knowing the company's and the department's related systems for the establishment of financial budgets and the reconciliation of these budgets including business unit interrelationships.
Proposal Preparation: The research, analysis, preparation, specifications and delivery criteria relating to a proposal.
Project Planning: Ability to identify the sponsor, define the scope and objectives of a project, anticipate resource needs, and then arrange, prioritize and schedule activities to meet project objectives.
Strategic Planning: Strategic planning is the process of deciding on organizational objectives, resources, operations and policies which will be implemented in the future.

The base salary range advertised represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. The base pay is only one aspect of the Total Rewards Package that will be offered to the successful candidate.
