Overview
The School of Social Sciences, Criminal Justice program at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for either a Professional Practice Assistant Professor (non-tenure-track) or Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Criminal Justice. This is a full-time position. The position is located at the USU Eastern Campus in Price, Utah. We particularly seek applications from individuals with criminal justice teaching experience at the university level and experience working in forensic science and investigations.
This is a nine-month appointment with USU's criminal justice program, beginning August 2026. The area of teaching specialization for this position is forensic science and investigations. The successful candidate will provide support for a quickly growing and high demand applied criminal justice program.
Responsibilities
Teaching lower and upper-division courses in the criminal justice program
Advising undergraduate students
Providing service to the department, the university, and the profession
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
To be considered as a Professional Practice Assistant Professor:
Minimum: an MA/MS in forensic sciences, criminal justice/criminology or a closely related social science discipline at the time of appointment.
Preferred: 1) experience teaching undergraduate courses in criminal justice, 2) teaching experience with distance education technology and delivery modalities, and 3) experience working in corrections.
To be considered as an Assistant Professor:
Minimum: at the time of appointment, 1) a PhD in forensic science, criminal justice/investigations or a closely related forensics degree, 2) a Juris Doctorate (JD) and a master's degree in forensic science, criminal justice/investigations or a closely related forensics degree, or 3) a JD and demonstrated relevant experience in criminal justice/investigations.
Preferred: 1) experience teaching undergraduate courses in forensic science, criminal justice, or investigations 2) teaching experience with distance education technology, 3) a record of scholarly activity, and 4) experience working in forensic science or investigations.
