Aerotek Welder Fitter in Portland, Oregon

Welder / Fitter

Pay: $28–$32/hour

Location: Portland, OR

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced Welders, Fitters, and Leads to join our structural fabrication team. This role focuses on structural welding and fitting of heavy steel components, primarily using flux-core welding processes. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable working with 1/2" or thicker mild steel in multiple positions.

Key Responsibilities

Welding Duties

  • Perform structural welding using flux-core with various wire sizes

  • Weld 1/2" and thicker mild steel in positions ranging from 1G to 3G

  • Maintain high-quality welds per company and industry standards

Fitter Duties

  • Complete full layout and fitting of structural assemblies using blueprints and welding symbols

  • Verify accuracy of layouts through quality checks

  • Collaborate closely with welders to complete assigned work scopes

Lead Responsibilities

  • Own all aspects of assigned jobs, including layout, fitting, welding, and quality control

  • Ensure projects are completed accurately, safely, and on schedule

  • Assist with pre‑fabrication operations as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong experience welding and fabricating structural steel

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols

  • Proficiency with Flux Core, Dual Shield, and structural welding processes

  • Welders must be able to pass a 1/2" plate test in 3G

  • Fitters and Leads must pass a 1/2" plate test in 1G and demonstrate the ability to walk through prints and perform accurate layouts

Preferred (Not Required)

  • WABO, AWS, or 3G certifications

Work Environment

This is a local structural fabrication shop that also supports national operations for large conveying systems used in mining. Our 10‑acre campus includes:

  • Full fabrication capabilities

  • Sandblasting and painting operations

  • A modern, state-of-the-art drafting and 3D modeling department

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.
