About the role

As a Senior Platform and Observability Engineer, you will make an impact by shaping how system health, performance, and reliability are measured and improved across distributed environments. By designing modern observability solutions and enabling real-time insights, you will help teams move faster, reduce incidents, and deliver seamless user experiences at scale. You will be a valued member of the Cloud Infrastructure and Security team and work collaboratively with the Senior Manager.

In this role, you will:

• Design and implement observability solutions across cloud-native and microservices-based environments

• Develop and maintain Grafana dashboards that provide clear, actionable insights into system performance

• Partner with engineering and platform teams to define monitoring standards and best practices

• Investigate incidents and performance issues, conducting root cause analysis to drive long-term improvements

• Automate monitoring and observability workflows to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort

• Support and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments, including deployments and configuration management

• Write and debug YAML configurations for infrastructure and application workflows

• Leverage Crossplane to manage infrastructure provisioning and deployment pipelines

• Continuously improve system reliability, availability, and performance through data-driven insights

• Stay current with emerging observability, cloud, and DevOps technologies

• Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing knowledge and supporting peer growth

Work model

We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 4 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Portland, OR. Regardless of your working arrangement, we are here to support a healthy work-life balance though our various wellbeing programs.

What you need to have to be considered:

• 8+ years of experience working with Kubernetes, including troubleshooting and YAML configuration

• 8+ years of experience with Grafana and building observability dashboards

• 4+ years of experience using Crossplane for infrastructure and deployment workflows

• Strong understanding of observability practices, including monitoring, logging, and alerting

• Experience working within microservices and distributed system architectures

• Solid experience with DevOps practices and automation

• Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform: AWS, GCP, or Azure

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex system issues

These will help you stand out:

• Experience designing observability strategies for large-scale or enterprise environments

• Familiarity with additional observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, OpenTelemetry)

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code

• Background in performance tuning and optimization

• Interest in mentoring and supporting team development
