Jacobs Radiation Health Physicist - Environmental Remediation in Portland, Oregon

For our radiation services community of practice, that means using innovative approaches to provide economical client solutions for complex environmental solutions. We’re seeking a Junior Radiation Health Physicist to support projects for primarily our Navy and uranium mining restoration clients, though our portfolio is broad, and many other clients and projects are included.

Projects will involve a variety of field implementations for radiological assessments and remediation, plan development, data evaluation, desktop research and document reviews. Must have experience in environmental projects that evaluate soil, groundwater, surface water, or sediments. Projects could be executed under EPA, NRC, Agreement States, USACE, or Tribal Agency authority and may include investigations, risk assessments, feasibility studies, engineering analysis, remedial actions, and closures.

It is expected that field tasks would be required and may include performing surveys and assessments. Additionally, characterizing radiological materials in various matrices, implementing radiation safety practices, maintaining radiation protection programs, and regulatory compliance during project activities. In addition, there may be times where you are involved with general environmental field and project tasks, working with project teams to help deliver high quality data and deliverables to our clients.

A balance of remote and office work is expected, and preference will be given to candidates located in California. Time in the field may typically be approximately 50%, with the occasional span where travel may be more heavy than 50%.

The position offers the opportunity to elevate your Health Physics career working with and being mentored by the highly professional, experienced, and credentialed Jacobs radiation services staff on a wide variety of health physics related issues. Opportunities for leadership and ownership on projects are expected and developing technical as well as project management skills will be further developed. Writing clearly, presenting technical approaches, and justifying decisions are essential, as we help clients obtain regulatory and community acceptance and close projects.

  • B.S. degree in Radiation Health Physics or Nuclear Engineering.

  • Experience with environmental and remediation programs.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • 2 to 5 Years of Professional Health Physics Experience.

  • Experience radiological investigations or BRAC closures.
