Actalent Engine Technician in PONTIAC, Michigan
Description
Work with Engineers in the Pontiac Propulsion Labs
Engine Development is calibration development, mechanical experiments, fabrication and manual test points to run getting the engine to 60% calibrated and then send it to Engine Validation to test and ultimate take it to a failure state.
Mechanical swapping of engine components working hand in hand with engineers to test different combinations of engine for optimum performance
Will work in laboratory setting using AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment
Will work on engine tuning and calibration using software such as HP Tuners or standalone systems
Will run and operate manual testing on a dyno
Will work with a Test Engineer to manipulate fuel tables, air-intake, spark and exhaust to find optimum performance on test engines
Will do work at the component level including components like oil pumps, head or cam changes, fuel injectors, spark plugs - almost anything.
Assembly/Modification and/or Fabrication to existing Engines to prep for testing
Fabricate components on engine and test stand/dynos for testing
Instrumentations between the engine and they dyno
TIG Weld parts and components

Additional For Engine Development:
Lab experience is someone who has worked in a lab previously and is familiar with the environment, which revolves around testing and development, dyno equipment and emissions testing. Most technicians instead have a position that focuses on repair and troubleshooting of an engine.
Calibration experience could come from being in a lab, but we are finding that a lot of techs from other labs more closely fit the description of #4 rather than #1. They only really turn wrenches, and the engineers do the actual work we are interested in.
Calibration experience could come from personal time as well, if a person was familiar with using stand alone fueling systems or worked on a race team/shop etc. So it doesn’t exactly need to be early stage development but it would help.
Really at base level we need a tech that can perform mechanical, but also understands how to tune engine tables using some kind of program.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr.
