Description
We are proactively tracking talent for a growing manufacturing organization seeking a Cost Accounting Manager with 7–10 years of progressive cost accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities. This role will oversee all cost accounting functions, ensure accurate inventory valuation and financial reporting, and partner closely with operations and leadership to drive cost efficiency and margin improvement.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and standard costing processes across all products
• Lead standard cost development and maintenance, including cost roll-ups and system updates
• Analyze labor, material, and overhead costs, providing insights to improve operational efficiency
• Review and analyze cost variances (PPV, labor efficiency, overhead absorption) and present findings to leadership
• Oversee inventory accounting, including WIP, finished goods, cycle counts, and reconciliations
• Lead the month-end close process related to cost accounting, including journal entries and account reconciliations
• Partner with operations, supply chain, and production teams to identify cost drivers and implement process improvements
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost planning initiatives across the organization
• Manage and mentor cost accounting staff, providing guidance and development
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, GAAP, and company accounting policies
• Drive ERP system enhancements and ensure accuracy of costing and inventory data
Requirements
Requirements
• 7–10 years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience within an accounting or finance team
• Strong expertise in BOMs, standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including:
• Pivot tables
• VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP
• SUMIFS
• Experience working within an ERP system (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, NetSuite, etc.)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to present financial insights to leadership
• Excellent communication skills and ability to partner cross-functionally with operations and finance teams
• Experience supporting audits and maintaining strong internal controls
