High School Physical Education Teacher (Physical Conditioning & Weightlifting)
Position Summary: Mission Valley Christian Academy (MVCA) is seeking a dedicated and energetic part time PE (0.3 FTE) Instructor. This Physical Education Teacher position is for a private Christian school in the Mission Valley which provides instruction in elective courses such as Physical Conditioning and Weightlifting while promoting lifelong fitness, physical health, and a Christ-centered character. The teacher/instructor fosters a safe, engaging learning environment where students develop strength, endurance, discipline, and confidence in physical activity. This position includes spiritual leadership, discipleship of students, and integration of a biblical worldview, encouraging students to honor God through healthy living, personal commitment, teamwork, and stewardship of their bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Teach high school physical education electives such as Physical Conditioning and Weightlifting.
- Plan and implement engaging lessons that develop strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall fitness.
- Instruct students in proper exercise techniques, weightlifting form, and safe use of fitness equipment.
- Teach foundational concepts including fitness principles, muscle groups, injury prevention, and personal wellness.
- Integrate a biblical worldview into instruction by emphasizing discipline, stewardship of the body, perseverance, and teamwork.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying skill levels and physical abilities.
Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship
- Model Christ-like character and provide spiritual leadership within the classroom and athletic environment.
- Participate in the discipleship and spiritual formation of students through encouragement, mentoring, and example.
- Support and reinforce the school's Christian mission and values in daily interactions with students.
- Encourage students to honor God in their attitudes, effort, and treatment of others.
Student Development
- Encourage students to set personal fitness goals and monitor progress.
- Promote lifelong habits of physical activity and wellness.
- Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and respect among students.
- Create a positive environment where students grow in both character and physical ability.

Safety & Supervision
- Maintain a safe and organized fitness environment.
- Supervise students during workouts and activities to ensure proper technique and prevent injury.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of weight room and gym equipment.
- Follow school safety guidelines and procedures for physical training environments.
Assessment & Communication
- Evaluate student progress through participation, skill development, effort, and personal improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding expectations and performance.
Professional Responsibilities
- Support and uphold the mission, vision, and statement of faith of the school.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote a Christ-centered learning environment.
- Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain professionalism and integrity in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in physical education, or Kinesiology, or Exercise Science, or a related field.
- Teaching or Personal Trainer certification in Physical Education or Strength and Conditioning certification.
- Knowledge of strength training, conditioning, and fitness program design for adolescents.
- Be certified in CPR/
- Ability to demonstrate prop r exercise techniques and safe training practices.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and leadership skills.
- A personal commitment to the Christian faith and agreement with the MVCA's statement of faith.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching high school physical education or coaching athletics.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED.
- Experience supervising weight room environments and strength training programs.

Work Environment This position requires active participation in physical activities, supervision in gymnasium and weight room settings, and the ability to demonstrate exercises and movement techniques while guiding students in both physical and spiritual growth.
Benefits

- Payroll occurs bi-weekly.
- The school calendar starts with PIR days in late August, with classes starting in September, and school ending at the end of May.
Thanksgiving break is one full week, Christmas break 2 full weeks, and spring break lasts 10 days.
