Summary

The Extrusion Line Operator is responsible for machine operation, production, quality control, and ensuring safe operation practices.

Responsibilities

  • Start up and stop equipment.
  • Break down, clean and set up on all dies and restart extruders with no supervision.
  • Operate the most difficult Extrusion lines with minimal to no assistance.
  • Load and unload items from machines, carts, and dollies.
  • Operate forklift.
  • Lubricate equipment.
  • Repair machines or systems using the needed tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance.
  • Measure and pour ingredients.
  • Ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Conduct tests and inspections of product to evaluate quality.
  • Ability to be a team-leader to line assistants including instruction and time management.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and quality throughout the entire part run.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and correct any problems at startup or during production.
  • Troubleshoots downstream equipment problems.
  • Measure length of extruded article.
  • Remove product and machine attachments.
  • Scrape waste material from machine.
  • Manages materials and minimizes waste
  • Read and interpret gauges.
  • Control operation of equipment and systems using automated equipment by touch screen inputs.
  • Record data.
  • Load and unload processing equipment.
  • Track and count inventory.
  • Pour materials into machine hopper.
  • Take instructions from supervisors.
  • Trains or assists in the training of other operators.
  • Able to prioritize time to direct and utilize fellow operators time in an effective manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must hold at least a high school diploma, or the equivalent of four years production experience.
  • Must have experience running production equipment, heavy machinery, etc.
  • Have knowledge of, or learn the specifications and proper use of, a Davis-Standard extrusion line including shears, accumulator and winder.
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English affluently.
  • Commitment to the organization and the mission statement.
  • Basic knowledge and ability for using computers.
  • Be able to concentrate for long periods of time.
  • Be able to work to deadlines.
  • Be able to work accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgment and discretion.
  • Good problem solving skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift or move equipment/materials weighing up to 500 pounds, with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to work with chemicals with varying degrees of toxicity.
  • Ability to work for extended periods at computer workstation, lab bench, etc.
  • Ability to stand for long durations while the machine is operating.
  • Ability to tolerate warm working conditions near machinery.
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts.
