Secondary Instructional Consultant & New Teacher Mentor

The Secondary Instructional Consultant & New Teacher Mentor is a classroom-embedded coaching and support position designed to strengthen instructional capacity across the secondary level. This role provides targeted mentoring for novice teachers and instructional support for all secondary teachers, with a particular emphasis on intervention strategies in Math and ELA. The Instructional Consultant reports to the Curriculum Director and collaborates closely with building principals, the Curriculum Coordinator, and district instructional teams. The position aligns with the Idaho Mentor and Induction Program Standards and district instructional priorities.

  • Educational Expertise:Extensive secondary classroom experience with a deep understanding of effective instruction and high-impact intervention (especially in Math and ELA).

  • Autonomy & Organization:Ability to be self-directed in managing a complex schedule, demonstrating superior time management skills to meet district and teacher needs.
  • Coaching & Leadership:Knowledge of adult learning theory, effective coaching practices, and the ability to model varied instructional strategies.
  • Technical Proficiency:Familiarity with district instructional technology, digital tools, and software applications.
  • Professionalism:A solutions-oriented mindset with the flexibility to support teachers outside regular hours and a commitment to ongoing professional growth.
  • Strategic Alignment:Understanding of district initiatives such as Visible Learning, Restorative Practices, MTSS, and intervention frameworks.

Job Duties

Teacher Coaching & Mentoring

  • Novice Support:Plans and implements professional development for new teachers and content mentors, including support for those pursuing alternative certification.
  • Instructional Coaching:Provides coaching on classroom management, instructional strategies, and district-adopted technology.
  • Observation & Feedback:Conducts regular classroom observations using the Danielson Framework to provide actionable feedback and reflective coaching.
  • Modeling:Co-teaches and models intervention lessons, small-group instruction, and evidence-based practices.

Instructional Support & Intervention (Math/ELA Focus)

Data-Driven Instruction:Assists teachers in analyzing student data and progress monitoring to identify learning gaps and adjust instructional responses.

MTSS Alignment:Supports the implementation of effective Tier I, II, and III intervention strategies and systems aligned with district frameworks.
